VIRGINIA - A1055943 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 A volunteer writes: Virginia is for lovers! Lovers of a dog with a big (beautiful!) head and short legs. Lovers of a dog that is easy to handle on leash and seems housebroken. Lovers of a dog that doesn’t seem to know many commands, but will stand on her hind legs and try anything she can to get a treat. Lovers of a dog that greets the puppy on the pen to her left with a wiggly tail and a motherly eye, and the boisterous dog on the pen to her right that paws at her through the gate with tolerance and the same waggy tail. Lovers of a dog that will prop her paws on you to solicit petting, make soft eye contact, and lick your face. Lovers of a dog that is curious about her surroundings, but mostly just happy to have company. Lovers of a dog that shows fleeting interest in tennis balls and sort of awkwardly throws herself at them. Lovers of a dog that has fed so many puppies she has udders that make a flapping noise when she walks. Lovers of a dog that has been used by some people, but doesn’t hold that against any that she encounters. Lovers of a dog that nearly howls when you put her back in her cage and is so charismatic and sweet you almost feel like doing the same when you’re apart! Virginia is looking for someone to love her, please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC and see if it might be you!

EBONY - A1055912 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
***TO BE DESTROYED***
Reportedly found as a “stray”, Ebony has been patiently waiting for her people to get her out of that cage she’s been sitting in at Brooklyn ACC. But no one ever came to reclaim this sweet young girl who was in decent health when she got there. But ACC has decided Ebony’s time with them is up and they’ve put her on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Poor sweet Ebony has so many things going against her—she’s a pit, she’s got those cropped ears, and she’s black. Don’t let those 3 strikes mean Ebony is just out of luck. Tonight, this girl needs someone to step up to foster or adopt her. She has so many years of loyalty left, so many years of doggie kisses left, so many years of a happy life left. But unless she finds her special someone by noon tomorrow, ACC will end her life before its even really began.

FRIDA - A1056138 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 Young, gorgeous and sweet—that’s Frida in a nutshell! Reportedly found as a stray, this girl is sitting in a cage at Brooklyn ACC wondering why her people never came for her. She had some painful wounds on her pawpads but that didn’t stop her from wowing the folks who first met her when she got there—“very sweet and calm during exam; very easy to handle; allowed all handling” is what they said about her. But time has marched on and ACC won’t keep her any longer—she’s on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Tonight, Frida is hoping someone out there spots her and just knows that she’d be a perfect addition to their household. But unless that someone steps up to foster or adopt her by noon tomorrow, Frida will never get the chance to be a bff to a special human for many years to come.

CHICO - A1051750 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
***TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15***
A volunteer writes: Chico spent the better part of the past two years living in a yard, but you would never know it! He is crazy sweet, magnetic, loving, well-mannered, and is even working on his first manuscript! Here are some excerpts from The Art of Charm, by Chico. Chapter One: Should you find yourself in a new place, where you don’t know anyone or anydog, be your friendly self, but don’t be afraid to show that you feel vulnerable. Submissively roll over if someone looks at you and you don’t know what to do with yourself. Stay for belly rubs. Chapter Two: You are very handsome, shiny, and physically fit, but there is no need to flaunt your strength. Walk nicely on leash, stay right at the side of your new friend and look up often with soft eyes. That’s what I do, and I have all the volunteers dotting the i in my name with a heart. Chapter Three: Always know where the toilet is; relieving myself outside and keeping my cage clean has earned me lots of praise. Chapter Four: Be just the right amount of cuddly. When I’m called over I’m quick to prop my paws on a new friend, give gentle kisses, and wag my tail in circles to show how happy I am to be in their company, but am not overbearing. Chapter Five: Play, have fun, and relish the little joys in life. I recently carried a stuffed teddy bear in my mouth for three blocks!!! What a treasure! Chapter Six: When working towards a goal, be patient and don’t be afraid to ask for help. I’m writing this from Brooklyn ACC, where everyone appreciates my charm, but I want nothing more than to move into a home and charm the same person, day after day! Another volunteer writes: Chico is a small gentle pooch. He walks nicely on his leash. He really appreciates a stroll in the neighborhood. How about your neighborhood? Chico will fit right in. Come meet this sweet boy. You will be glad you did. Another volunteer writes: Chico is a great young dog. He is a small dog who is very gentle on his leash. Did I mention that he loves treats? Come see this fella now!

CARLO - A1056579 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 ***ATAXIC/NEUROLOGIC — NEEDS FOLLOW UP CARE ASAP*** Carlo may be sitting in a crowded city shelter, but he is woefully alone tonight and he is suffering. We’re not sure how Carlo ended up on a stranger’s porch but the city was called to rid the neighborhood of this nuisance. Poor Carlo is suffering from what’s called “ataxia” meaning that he doesn’t have control of his body and limbs. Anyone who’s ever been dizzy knows how very uncomfortable the sensation is. Carlo is not able to stand straight as his body leans to the side. Now Carlo’s problem may be perfectly treatable but people don’t come to the shelter looking for a sick dog. Carlo’s color, age and breed are all stacked against him in that he’s a mostly black, pit bull terrier mix. Despite all that he’s going through, Carlo is an agreeable chap who tolerates examination. Will you consider helping the boy who nobody wants?

ZOEY - A1056013 - Manhattan - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 A volunteer writes: Things I love about Zoey: 1) She’s a total schmushy girl who loves to hug and kiss 2) her leash manners are lovely and she checks up often as we walk 3) she’s gorgeous in a gleaming black coat 4) her eyes are twinkling and bright 4) she loves belly rubs 5) she’s playful and sweet. Surrendered to our care by her person for “space issues”, we’re told that Zoey is housetrained (check),knows ‘sit’ (check), has been with kids ages 3,5 and 7, and is respectful of them, likes squeaky toys, is well behaved indoors, and can be shy at first and then starts wagging her tail. I loved this sweet puppy as she rolled into me for hugs and then over for a belly rub, her face laughing, paws in the air! Joining me on the bench for more hugs, she’s a total people dog so happy to be in the arms of a person (and I was delighted to have her there!). We’re told she hasn’t been exposed to other dogs or cats, and her nervousness in her first group reflects that lack of exposure. She’s smart, she’ll get it and we have high hopes for our little girl. If you are looking for the perfect cuddle buddy, Zoey is looking for you. Nothing will make her happier after a nice walk than curling up beside you to watch your favorite TV show. Be sure to meet her today.

REMY - A1056088 - Manhattan - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 A volunteer writes: What a giant heart in such a skinny body! Despite being pretty hungry-looking, Remy eschews treats in favor of laps and kisses and play bowing to other dogs and romping after a plush toy with a puppy’s enthusiasm. What fills her up is LOVE, and we are so delighted to be able to oblige! They don’t come nicer than this cheerful girl, who is all wags and enthusiasm and joy! Remy would benefit from some hearty meals and a light touch of leash training, but she appears to be house trained and she is fully prepared to be the queen of your heart and home.

ANGEL - A1046783 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
***TO BE DESTROYED 11/5/15*** IN SHELTER SINCE AUGUST 5TH WAITING FOR A HOME!
A volunteer writes: Angel came to the shelter as a stray. She has a beautiful brown and white cow print coat, and expressive brown eyes to compliment it. Angel is a bit shy as her world is turned upside down, she’s without a home now and in a shelter, on our walk together she was clearly unsure of her new surroundings. Even though Angel was scared she took some treats very gently from my hand, showed me she can sit, and even slowly gave me one of her paws. She is quite a nice girl. Please come to SIACC and meet Angel. Another volunteer writes: Angel appropriately named sits so quietly in her kennel you almost pass her right by. She’s not barking and asking for attention like her kennel mates she keeps to herself and really doesn’t have much interest in the other dogs. If you walk over to her she gives you a happy tail wag and is easily leashed for a walk. Angel walks well on leash and is quite content sniffing around outside and listening to the cars travel past the shelter. She gives me her sad puppy dogs eyes when its time to go back inside so I sit with her a bit longer. Angel is quietly waiting for her forever home. Please consider adding this well behaved girl to your home. You won’t be sorry.

DENIM DANE - A1055194 - Manhattan - Publicly Adoptable
***TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15***AVERAGE RATED!
A volunteer writes: Look closely at the cutie’s face and you’ll see the most adorable line of whiskers across his upper lip — a little whiskered mustache! So cute! He’s handsome in his clean white coat, his black eye patch gives him a rakish sexy look, and as I unlatch his door his tail wags in greeting. Dane (yes, we’re on a nickname friendship now) pulls hard on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training. Using the “facilities” as soon as we were out the door shows me he’s housetrained, and after a short walk we head to the backyard. As Dane explores the pen, he comes to me when I call him and enjoys a butt scratch doing the 1,2 step butt scratch ‘shuffle’ as I rub him. Taking treats gently when offered, he’s off again to explore, returning for another treat and some kisses. In group play he’s tolerant but not completely engaged right away. Handsome, affectionate but not “in your face”, Dane is looking for a new person or family with whom to enjoy life. Ask to meet him today. Another volunteer writes: Detective Denim here, primed and ready for action! I love to explore so when we’re out patrolling the streets sniffing is my number one priority (after I’ve taken care of number two of course!) and I always find the best trees and leaf piles to investigate. I do enjoy the physical side of my job but I’m never hyper and when it’s time for snacks or snuggles I’m fine with taking a break to sit on command, enjoy a treat or a massage and offer a little kiss (or three!) in return. I’m a savvy guy (us Detectives have to be, y’know?) so while I follow instructions well, I might sometimes give you ‘the look’ and take my sweet time sitting down, just to remind you that Denim is still the boss of Denim. Hanging out with my doggie friends is always fun and I’m told I have pretty fine social manners, greeting politely and keeping my cool amid the hubbub of a busy playgroup too. If you’ve been searching for a pet who’ll bring all the smarts, loyalty and heart to get the job done right then look no further–Denim’s your guy! So whaddaya say, partner…shall we head on outta here?

PAPO - A1056511 - Manhattan - Rescue Only
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 ** RESCUE ONLY ** Papo is a sugar-faced gent who should be living with people he loves, in familiar circumstances, enjoying the kitchens and sofas which are his proven favorites. Instead, this 12-pound elderpup is struggling to make sense of WHY his former owner brought him to the ACC, then walked away forever. Nothing at the shelter makes sense to Papo so far, so imagine how confused he will be tomorrow afternoon. That’s when one last person will pull him from his cage, pin him down on a stainless steel table, and ignore those frantic eyes that will be searching for someone to save him. Want to spare him that horrible, horrible fate? Advocate ferociously for PAPO, tonight and contact a New Hope approved rescue if you can help him!

ELMO - A1056014 - Manhattan - Rescue Only
TO BE DESTROYED 11/05/15 Elmo can be gentle and he can be crabby – he reminds us of a lovable rodent, sort of like that rat carrying the slice of pizza through the subway. Elmo is quite small at only 13-pounds and he’s reached well into his middle years at around 8-years. Elmo’s owner found him on the street about one year ago and welcomed him into her home. Now that there’s a new baby on the scene, Elmo is no longer trustworthy and indeed, he may not be the right dog to hang around with little ones. Elmo is a New Hope Only subject because as we said, he can show some attitude. Up til now, Elmo’s been lucky that he’s so darned cute. He really means well and doesn’t deserve a death sentence. So who wants a comical, crabby senior. November is “Adopt a Senior” month. C’mon folks, who will be the lucky winner of little Elmo?

Julian remains in critical condition. Tortured and starved... You wont believe what happened to this poor dog...
Julian: Starved and abused... will you be his voice?
Julian remains in critical condition. There was virtually no change after a night on IV fluids & heat. He was moved to Rescue Dogs Rock's primary vet for diagnostics. His temperature is still way too low, he's severely anemic and he has no appetite.
His brindle coat doesn't allow his body condition to really show in photos. Their vet staff told rescuers his state is SHOCKING! You can see every bone in his body. There is no doubt, he was hours away from death. His blood count was so low, he's getting a blood transfusion right away. Rescue Dogs Rock is pulling out all the stops to save his precious life.
Julian needs a village behind him. He's probably the most emaciated dog they have ever taken on. We hope you will join us in the fight to save Julian! It's minute to minute right now. He cannot walk & his temperature remains too low to register.!
Please consider making a purchase to help save him! We have partnered with Rescue Dogs Rock to raise the funds needed to care for Julian. With every product purchased, we will donate $10 to give Julian the life he truly deserves and was always meant to have.
