Political Notes: Fernandes files pesticide legislation
BOSTON — State Rep. Dylan Fernandes, D-Woods Hole, has filed legislation to give towns more control over the use of pesticides in their communities.
The bill, entitled “An act empowering towns to protect their environment and residents from harmful pesticides,” would allow municipalities to enact stronger regulations above and beyond state regulations.
Filing of the legislation came on the same week Eversource confirmed it would resume pesticide spraying on its rights of way on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard this month.
Fernandes’ office is currently soliciting co-sponsors for the bill, which has not yet been assigned to a committee for a hearing, according to Sean Keady, Fernandes’ legislative aid.
