Middleboro residents have long been aware of the threatened loss of accreditation of the Middleboro High School due partly to the science labs.
.
As the Superintendent read the list of items being considered in the upgrade to satisfy the state, conspicuously missing from that list was EQUIPMENT that would enhance students' educational experience.
.
Hopefully, the School Committee will give greater consideration to the $250,000 expenditures beyond replacing cabinents and superficial changes.
.
A number of people with diverse educational backgrounds availed themselves of the opportunity after town meeting to comment on their disappointment with the proposed school changes.
.
Someone seems to have their priorities skewed when cabinets are more important than equipment.
.
Some of those parents who commented have taken their children out of Middleboro's Public School System for precisely this reason. And a few commented on the need to go to a voucher system.

I didn't think the money was being properly spent either.
Audience reaction was disappointing. Had they been better educated, they would have questioned the proposed expenditures. That's why my kids went to private school. Having a swim coach for a superintendent does not enhance the system.
I didnt get it when he even mentioned paiting I thought they did that stuff in the summer when they cleaned the shools.
If he had said new microscopes or testing equipment or things to conduct experiments, that would be good for the kids. Money doesnt go far but this seems like nothing for the kids
When the swim coach superintendent was asked if he had applied for grants he said no. Maybe if he shut, the pool the school would have more money, especially since there's a pool across the street.
The schools have been underperforming since before the budget cuts and he doesn't seem capable of leading. We might need a new school committee since they seem ineffectual.
Everything Sullivan listed sounded like summer maintenance projects and not worthy expenditures. The voters at town meeting were a disappointment with their rubberstamp instead of asking questions. No wonder the schools are so poor.
How come Bob Sullivan could endorse a casino without knowing the details, but when asked the composition and guarantee of the new school roof, he wavered, waffled and sidestepped?
This is wasted money from what I see and that's why my kids went to private school.
The biggest part of the reason for the failing schools is the top heavy administration who are overpaid and the school committee. Never should allow teachers on the school committee! Just look at how poorly they handled that situation with the abused 7 year old.
And Sullivan claimed he didn't know? That's a no-win comment. Either he doesn't know what's going on in the schools he's supervising or he lied.
