From Sierra Club --
The only way the Coal Industry can convince people that coal is clean is by spending $120 million on a duplicitous advertising campaign over the next three years. We don't have that kind of money, but we do have something better: You.
Would $120 million make you swoon for coal?
That's what American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE), a coal industry front group, is banking on. They are pouring $120 million into ads, slick websites, and an all out bus tour to get communities and lawmakers to forget how bad coal really is.1
Last week ACCCE's bus tour was in Missouri and just yesterday they were spotted at the Virginia State Fair. Do you think they mentioned that coal-fired power plants kill 24,000 people a year, are the largest source of human-generated mercury emissions, or waste and pollute vast amounts of our water?2
No - ACCCE is instead using outrageous scare tactics, like in this ad:
“We have to continue to advance clean coal technologies… If we don't, we may have to say ‘goodbye’ to the American way of life we all know and love.”3
some cameras can make coal into apple pie. Market-tested fear mongering can be a powerful force, but not nearly as powerful as the truth told to you by people you trust. Your friends and family listen and respect you a lot more than ads on the TV. That's why we’ve created some easy tools to help you get the word out. Will you do your part?
Let's make sure that the coal industry is pouring that $120 million down the drain. Help shutdown big coal's fancy propaganda machine with our video the grassroots way. It doesn't cost $120 million to send this to your friends.

With our collective lack of interest in fact-checking, as Americans we are simply turning into "sheeple". And we are surely setting ourselves up for disaster, too.
Did you know that just 3 tea party backing billionaires bought the primary election for Christine O'Donnell and several other tea party nut-cases? ( FYI, the tea party is finance based by the Billionaire Koch bros and the ACCCE, among others. Their hope and plan is to destroy government, especially the Obama years. They don't believe in social security, medicare, having a larger tax base for the rich, health care reform, and certainly the EPA, which regulates (or interferes) with their dirty little plans and unconscionable energy profits.
Tea party activists who have more than $45 million per month from the Koch bros, alone, are successfully using it to spread the lies about jobs, security, the future and things like healthy coal. Koch bros, for example, make $35 billion per year mostly from their energy based portfolio (and that figure is growing)! Of course this is money well spent, FOR THEM. See the article at: http://WWW.NEWYORKER.COM/REPORTING/2010/08/30/100830FA_FACT_MAYER
Just three people can conceivably buy the vote. Don't laugh, they are committing treason against our government, every day. . .and that is really scary. Even more frightening is this fact, they spent just $38 million on such ads in 2009. But that was before their Republican Supreme Court changed the rules in their favor.)
Thanks to the newly in-acted law that allows major contributions to political campaigns from corporations and the super rich (like the coal industry, Big Pharma, the oil cartels), these groups are buying you with propaganda ads and Internet smear campaigns at breakneck speed. Are we really this stupid??? GULP!
Thanks, Anon!
I couldn't agree with you more and you might find it interesting that I posted an excerpt from Greg Palast's book, "Armed Madhouse" here: Tinker Bell, Pinochet And The Fairy Tale Miracle Of Chile.
There is an entry that includes the Koch Brothers here: Sensible energy policies and additional posts here: Koch
China and Europe are aggressively pursuing alternative energy, while we follow the wealthy down the yellow brick road to greater impoverishment.
"Sheeples" ? You got it!
