I’ll be honest: I don’t know if the Republicans are going to shut down the government this week – or if they’ll kick the can to December and try to do it two weeks before Christmas instead.
But I do know this: So long as the Republican Party gets to set the agenda in the Senate and the House, and the Tea Party holds them hostage, we’ll keep reliving this twisted version of Groundhog Day over and over again.
That’s why I’m doing everything I can to take back Democratic control of the Senate, so we stop wasting our time trying to defund Planned Parenthood clinics or gut Wall Street reforms and get back to fighting to level the playing field for working families.
This past weekend, I went to the University of Wisconsin to talk to students about why we need Russ Feingold’s help to pass student loan reform.
And here’s the reality: Every day that the Republican leadership fights about defunding women’s health clinics – or whether the janitors and cafeteria workers in government buildings should get paid this Thursday – is a day we’re not working to help our kids who are getting crushed with debt, or help seniors who are trying to make it on Social Security, or help workers who are living in poverty on the minimum wage.
We know what we need to do to put this country back on the right track – but we need Democrats to help us do it.
Thanks to your grassroots support, I’m criss-crossing the country to talk about what we believe in and to raise money and rally volunteers for Democratic candidates and state parties. Your help gives us the chance to grow our team and spread the word about the issues and candidates we care about.
I’m fighting my heart out each and every day, but I can’t do it alone. We’re a team – and if we want real change, we’ll do it together.
