Dear Friend of Countercurrents.org,
All year around we were giving you up to date news that matters. The kind of news that uphold the dignity of living, human rights, planetary health and most importantly the survival of our future generations in our little home, our one and only planet earth. Our home is dying. The powers that be are expediting her death. While the mainstream media is the cacophony of gossip, controversy and meaningless debates, our fellow humans are dying in every corner of the earth even without a modicum of dignity even at their death. Who will sound the alarm? We do it. We at Countercurrents are doing our best to tell our fellow humans about the world as it is.
So many things happened during the past year. The divisive election in the USA, Brexit, the demonetization and beef ban in India, effects which are still unfolding in a catastrophic way. Countercurrents was at the forefront alerting the world. We had some minor successes. In this rudderless world WE AS A COMMUNITY has to stay together and take our mother ship safely home. It is the duty destined upon us by the times we are living.
If Countercurrents.org is to stay afloat for another year, CC community must come forward to keep it afloat. Yes, you kept it afloat for the last 15 years. I’m sure that this year too you will stand up to protect Countercurrents.
We don’t pester you for money every quarter. It’s only once a year that Countercurrents is asking for money. We cut down our expenses to a minimum so that you don’t have bear too much of a burden. But as you know in our world we need that little bit to keep it going.
Our target for this year is Rs 10 lakh or $ 15,000. Do come forward and lend a helping hand to keep us going. If we as a community can raise this much money, I hope Countercurrents will be safe for another year.

India- That What We Make It
by Nivedita Dwivedi
If the redefinition of nationalism needs to continue abated, then can we not define it in a way that actually takes the nation to glorious heights, rather than lead it towards unnecessary and unrewarding pursuits? Will the nation feel loved if its people raise it to the heights of glory that it truly deserves, by putting in their best in whatever they do, or will it feel loved if its own people actually inflict it with numerous cuts and bruises, such that it is forever bleeding?
Yoga For The Body Without Yoga For The Mind
by Sukumaran C V
What the nation needs today is not Yoga, but tolerance; not aggressive and exclusive nationalism that hurts the nation as a whole, but inclusive mindset that helps the nation to fight the enemies within, to fight those business forces that devastate Environment which sustains us
Bertha von Suttner: We Need Your Voice Today!
by John Scales Avery
Bertha von Suttner, famous antiwar author, friend and mentor of Alfred Nobel without whose advice to him the Peace Prize would not exist, early leader of the peace movement, we need your voice today!
Authentic Discussion Naming Names
by Richard Oxman
It can begin with authentic discussion of our collective crises, naming names… long before another quarter of a century passes. Yesterday would be a good day to begin.
A Nonviolent Strategy To Defeat Genocide
by Robert J Burrowes
It is a tragic measure of the depravity of human existence that genocide is a continuing and prevalent manifestation of violence in the international system, despite the effort following World War II to abolish it through negotiation, and then adoption and ratification of the 1948 Genocide Convention.
Escalations In Syria
by Dr Binoy Kampmark
To become enmeshed in a war of incalculable variables; to be at bloody bruised loggerheads – this is the Syrian nightmare, where there are more punters than odds. Savagely, Syria as a state is being ravaged and mauled to the point of non-recognition. It is now a mere terrain for heavily armed bullies, a smoky crusted ruin of dust and cosmic ruin, its populace fleeing when it can, shielding itself when it must, and hoping for the best.
Why I Reject Western Courts And Justice
by Andre Vltchek
And one more comment about Western justice: if just slightly exaggerating, one could easily arrive to the conclusion that in a world ruled by brutal and unbridled imperialism, the only honorable place to dwell in is jail!
Lawfare Is Meant To Convert Jews Worldwide To Zionism
by Rima Najjar
Lawfare is a tool used by Zionist organizations to suppress pro-Palestine activity by conflating anti-Semitism (in its sense of “anti-Jewish animus”) with anti-Zionism, the ideology that perpetuates Israel’s denial of Palestinian rights. A case in point is the lawsuit against San Francisco State University (SFSU) currently being heard in a U.S. federal court brought by the right-wing Zionist organization The Lawfare Project,
Islamic State: The Genesis of a Sectarian Frankenstein
by Nauman Sadiq
A number of Islamic State affiliates have recently sprung up all over the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia regions that have no organizational and operational association, whatsoever, with the Islamic State proper in Syria and Iraq, such as the Islamic State affiliates in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya and even Boko Haram in Nigeria now falls under the rubric of the Islamic State.
Islamophobia: Does It Has To Do Anything With The Rise Of Militancy In Kashmir
by Sheikh Umar Ahmad
Some people also question the validity of the term, even some claim societies where virtually no Muslims live but many institutionalized forms of Islamophobia still exist in them. Different versions of Islamophobia exist in different parts of world with India also unarguably joining the seats with large pool of people sense Islam as pseudo-religious integrity and linking it with the spread of terrorism in world.
Condemn The Arrest Of Mine Workers In Sukinda Valley In Odisha
Coordination of Democratic Rights Organisation strongly condemns the arrest of three mine workers Rabi Murmu, Abhimanyu Mohanto and Ramesh Majhi on June 12, 2017 on false and fabricated charges of conspiring to wage a war against the Indian state and inciting violence. We understand this arrest and the imposition of severe charges as an attempt by the ruling BJD and BC Mohanty & Sons, the company operating the mine in Sukinda valley to intimidate and prevent the mine workers from forming a trade union and challenging human rights violations resulting from mass tribal displacement in the region.
