CHARLIE BAKER: YOU OWN THIS!
- "T troubles cost state $9B in 6 yrs," by Herald staff, Boston Herald: "The MBTA's aging infrastructure has cost the Boston area 13,155 jobs and a $9 billion hit in wages over six years due to seeming endless commutes and delays, according to a new report. The report from the American Public Transportation Association cites the T's $7.3 billion state-of-good-repair backlog as fueling the delays and long commutes that have taken their toll on the region."
- "In reversal, MBTA and Charlie Baker seek change in budget rules," by Adam Vaccaro, Boston Globe: "The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Governor Charlie Baker are trying to change course on a reform sought by the Baker administration after the service collapse in the winter of 2015, but are running into some resistance from lawmakers. A state law passed in 2015 required the MBTA to shift hundreds of employees who were paid through the agency's capital budget, which funds repair and construction work, onto its operating budget, which covers the system's day-to-day workings."
- "With aging prison population, Massachusetts looks to possible cost-saving, compassionate fix," by Jennifer McKim, New England Center for Investigative Reporting: "These unnamed cemetery plots also hint at the enormous cost to the public of keeping prisoners in captivity until they die. Now Massachusetts, which has one of the oldest prison populations in the country, is looking to reduce the number of incapacitated or terminally ill inmates, potentially saving taxpayers millions of dollars."
