Democrats: State Rep. Geoff Diehl should cancel fundraiser and return all money collected

The state Democratic Committee is calling for a Whitman Republican to cancel a fundraiser and return any money collected after he asked school officials to send children home with fliers for the political event. State Rep. Geoff Diehl, R-Whitman, should return all money collected from parents for the April 18 fundraiser he has planned at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh said Tuesday in a prepared statement.
The state Democratic Committee is calling for first-term state Rep. Geoff Diehl, R-Whitman, to cancel a fundraiser and return any money collected after he asked school officials to send children home with fliers for the political event.
“How can the voters of his district be sure no funds have been raised by the ‘backpack letter’ scheme,” state Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said Tuesday in a statement.
Diehl did not return repeated calls or an email seeking comment Tuesday.
On Monday, Diehl said he was just trying to include local children in a fun event when he asked school officials to send them home with fliers for a political event.
The notes, distributed to third-grade students in East Bridgewater and Whitman, invited students to enter a lottery for the chance to read “The Ride of Paul Revere” at a Diehl fundraiser event on Patriots Day, April 18, at the Commercial Club in East Bridgewater.
Children under 12 would be admitted for free, but adults would pay $25 – money that would go into Diehl’s campaign account.
State law forbids the use of public resources, the schools, in this case, to campaign.
Diehl said Monday he had no idea he was violating state law. He said he got the idea because one of his daughters is a third-grader, and because his event included an appearance by former Patriots linebacker Steve DeOssie.

Did anyone notice who did fundraisers for DIEHL?
Among them was Whack-A-Ding  Paul LePage

If Diehl wants to discuss integrity, not sure Curt Shilling is an endorsement.

Another Republican with strange ideas campaigned for Diehl.
Do your research.

From Politico:

"GOP JOCKEYING - Two of the three Republicans angling to take on Sen. Elizabeth Warren may have skipped a debate last night, but all three are working down to the wire — in their own ways — to define their bids ahead of the September 4 primary.
State Rep. Geoff Diehl, for starters, has Herman Cain in town for a fundraiser. It's set to take place at Howie Carr's home in Wellesley later today. The former presidential candidate and creator of the 9-9-9 tax plan — who quit the 2012 race amid sexual harassment allegations — is just the latest nationally connected Republican brought in by Diehl's team in the primary. And as Diehl seeks to maintain his frontrunner status among likely Republican voters, he's also brought in former White House press secretary Sean Spicer and Maine Gov. Paul LePage as fundraising draws."
