Storm over Cape Cod

The Independent UK (emphasis mine, read the rest of the article on the link) focused on the well-funded Cape Wind opposition which seems to have attracted little definition in the US:

So far, the opponents have spent more than $20m trying to kill off the project, which is known as Cape Wind and is planned for a location widely deemed ideal for offshore wind turbines.
.
...opponents of the project decided long ago to throw in their lot in with Big Coal to try and kill off Cape Wind.
.
As consumers, it's significant to recognize the lengths to which Dirty Coal will go to perpetuate their pollution and environmental degradation at our expense.
.
This statement is telling:
.
Cape Cod has some of the worst air quality in Massachusetts. The fumes from oil and coal-fired electricity generating plants are trapped by the sea breezes and hover over the cape for days on end.
.
This discussion is more worthy of consideration since the Wall Street Journal reported Oil's Rapid Rise Stirs Talk of $200 a Barrel This Year.

This was never an issue in the past because we were always outside gardening, in the pool, playing vollyball. But now I feel like a hermit in the summer because I can't breath and its getting worst. If reducing enrgy use makes this better, we're beginning, but need more ideas.
