State's first hydrogen refueling facility powers up
Billerica station also part of tour to push alternative energy
.
...the PowerTap in Billerica isn't just any old pit stop: It's the state's first hydrogen refueling station. So when a string of vehicles rolled through the PowerTap for the first time yesterday, it marked the culmination of more than a decade of work for William Mitchell and his peers at Nuvera Fuel Cells, whose US corporate headquarters is also in Billerica. The company makes hydrogen fuel cells and operates the new refueling station.
.
"A fuel cell is like a battery because it makes electricity, but unlike a battery you don't charge it up," said Mitchell, who was on hand to celebrate the milestone. "As long as you give it oxygen from the air and hydrogen from a bottle, it creates electricity."

...the vehicles' only emission is water vapor...

A number of years ago, we watched Dennis Weaver debunk the hydrogen myths of the Hindenberg and explain the reasoning to support the use of hydrogen as fuel. That convinced us that hydrogen was a large part of the solution.
