Middleboro: Shot In The Foot Again!

Bellicose Bumpkin posted a great podcast discussion of Carcieri v Salazar, casino gambling, local government and assorted issues with Rich Young.
.
Good photo, BTW.
.
As part of this Town, each of us might engage in a conversation about leadership, planning for the future and what is considered acceptable conduct by members of the Board of Selectmen.
.
To me, the recent video clips of the BOS verbally assaulting a voter who merely raised a question, seems significant. Sick And Tired Of This Crap View from the cheap seats
.
This is the article referred to in the podcast that refers to the poor deal the Mashpee Wampanoags signed with investors that requires money to be repaid should a casino not be constructed -- Tribe on the hook for loans from casino investors
.
A discussion was included about the exclusion of the Route 44 upgrades and improvement from the state's stimulus funds, introduced on nemasket Some lamented the exclusion since it inhibits future growth and development in Middleboro.
.
Middleboro seems to have shot itself in the foot yet again!
.
Middleboro's Town Elections are April 7th. Voters might consider what is needed in Town Government and what we want in the future.

Everyone is picking on Spartaro for his Cheap Seats comment, no member of the board said it was inappropriate.
This truly deserves a public apology that should have been stated last week. They lost my vote and I'll remember to remind my friends when they're up for election.
Change your tone Marsha and Pat Rogers.

If the Tribe owes that much, can they file bankruptcy?

I liked Rich Young's comments about gifts and you said it before. Just don't accept them.

Rich Young praised the 3 depts. that make our town. Parks, Recreation and Library. We can add COA.
Why isn't the bos talking about cutting back to 4 days a week to balance the budget?

Rich Young always seems to make sense. He should speak more often.

For going on two years, the town has spent considerable effort, money, brainpower, and other resources on the casino project that was a long shot at best.

The project has moved from "long shot" to "no freaking way". It will be interesting to see how long it takes the Selectmen to stop smoking that pipe and redirect resources to projects that have a chance of happening.

It would also be interesting to think about all the money we've spent on this effort and what might have been done with it. By my estimate:
+$220K (Whittlesey + Whitten)
+$100K (TMFH)
+ $40K (guess on infrastructure studies)
+ $5 (postage for gift returns)

That money would have bought a beautiful web site, software for streamlining depts, on line bill pays. open space, energy conservation, etc, etc, etc.

2 years ago, when I moved forward with the Recall, along with others, I focused on the fiscal mismanagement of the Town.

At the time, I predicted that we had about 18 months to get our fiscal house in order.

There were those dull and boring financial issues that I raised, along with the continuing failure of the BOS to adhere to the statutes that govern their conduct.

Instead, we have gone backwards and now have a BOS with the audacity to publicly assault a voter who politely raised an issue regarding the contents of the official public record.

A pretty pathetic lot IMO.

April 7th - time for change!

Don't forget Town Moderator.
Do we really want Wayne Perkins to remain in town government? Hasn't he done enough damage? Is he running for office to add to his pension credits?

the voting , I believe, is April 4, 2009.
Please get out and vote.
Terms need to be established for BOS or better, yet, maybe it is time to talk about a mayor and council.Plymouth did it and others have talked about it.
I, personally, am sick and tired of what is going on in this town by a select few.
Just answer these questions.
Who has the power in this town?
BOS, tribe, taxpayers?
Do you think that it is time for change?
My answer is yes, it is. perhaps not a mayor, too long a process, but votes to get in new blood. Blood with integrity, honesty, creativity and ideas and most importantly, blood that will look at their constituents as the people that they are representing.
Who is being considered first by those in power?
Please, vote
