Casino Propaganda At Its Best

Just wondering --
.
The Republican reported on a DEBATE to be held to discuss the proposed expansion of gambling that includes Mohegan Sun Casino Inevitability representatives and Treasurer "Slot Parlor" Cahill, but no one else?
.
Merriam-Webster defines DEBATE as -- a regulated discussion of a proposition between two matched sides
.
Why isn't this being called the
.
Cahill Slot Parlor versus Mohegan Sun Casino LOVEFEST ?
Or
Will Cahill Slot Parlors suck your town more dry than a Mohegan Sun Casino?

.
In State Treasurer "Slot Parlor" Cahill's proposal, revenues were grossly overstated and expenses all but ignored.
.
In a speech [given in March] to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Cahill said his proposals could generate
as much as $4 billion in upfront payments or licensing
fees from private interests eager to operate slot parlors and the Lottery.
.
...Cahill's boast of $2 billion to $3.3 billion in upfront concession fees from slot machine operators seems based on a wildly optimistic view of the capital markets
.
"I haven't seen any analysis that supports this [Cahill plan]," says Greg Bialecki, the state's economic development secretary. LINK

"Slot Parlor" Cahill hasn't read about Indiana's experience.

NH police chiefs vote against expanded gambling
Associated Press - February 11, 2009 9:35 AM ET

.
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire police chiefs are confirming their stand against expanding gambling in the state.

.
Tuesday, chiefs at a meeting of the New Hampshire Association of Chiefs of Police voted to continue opposing expanded gambling.

.
Lincoln Police Chief Theodore Smith, the association president, said 54 chiefs voted against expanded gambling and one abstained. The vote came after the chiefs heard presentations for and against expanded gambling.

.
As lawmakers consider various gambling proposals, supporters are saying they will bring the state more money. Smith and the chiefs cite studies that show more gambling would mean more crime and social problems.

[Big sigh!]

Will residents of Massachusetts figure out the play book of the industry?
.
Don't let the opposition speak
Repeat the INEVITABILITY THEORY
Prevent the facts from being heard at all cost (they will sink the plan)
Don't ever allow facts to be introduced
At all costs, NEVER EVER allow ADDICTION to be discussed publicly
NEVER EVER allow the social costs to be discussed
NEVER EVER allow public safety costs to be discussed

Beyond the transparent script, what have I omitted?

Palmer to host forum May 14 to debate pros, cons of having a casino in town

.
PALMER - A forum to discuss the benefits, costs, and consequences of resort casinos and slot machines will be conducted by the town's Economic Development Advisory Committee on May 14.

Representatives of the Mohegan Sun, which is proposing a $1 billion resort casino on 152 acres opposite the state Turnpike exit, and from the office of state Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, who has proposed legalizing slot machines, are expected to attend the 7 p.m. event in the High School auditorium.
.
Committee Chairman Paul E. Burns said this week that the decision to call the forum was made as a result of a proposal by Cahill in March to allow several slot parlors statewide.
.
A proposal pending before the state Legislature also calls for allowing 1,500 slot machines statewide.
.
The town formed a Citizens Casino Impact Study Committee, which last month presented its report to the council, but the issue of so-called slot parlors had not arisen and was not studied by the group.
.
"Given that this proposal and the potential impact on Palmer has received no review, the committee felt it would be appropriate to invite the treasurer's office to present this proposal and answer questions as to how it may impact Palmer," Burns said. "The commission also felt that, given the existing proposal from Mohegan Sun, that it was important to compare the impact of both facilities in order to assess the potential impact of both facilities on the town."
.
The Economic Development Advisory Committee was created by the Town Council early last year with the goal of encouraging economic development and determining what barriers the town has to such development.
.
It includes three town councilors, including Burns, as well as residents and representatives of the business community.
.
The Town Council is expected to schedule meetings to discuss the lengthy report submitted by the Citizens Casino Committee, but no dates have been scheduled.
.
The Legislature is expected to take up the issue of slot machines and resort casinos next fall.
