DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the cat. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the cats’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the cat. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how animals fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular cat, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

A volunteer writes: Beans has had a rough break: He was abandoned by his previous owner at the Care Center. Wistful and a bit withdrawn, this handsome fellow is clearly taking the loss of his previous home hard. I told Beans not to worry. I... said that we'll do everything we can to find him a new, better home--one where he'll be cherished and adored, and treated to the endless head rubs volunteers say he loves. In his new home, he can stretch out on a sunny window sill, taking afternoon naps and curling up with his people without fear that he'll be abandoned again. Can you help make it happen for Beans? He's got his paws crossed, waiting for you on 110th Street.See More

Even though her name is Frankie, she wanted us to tell you that it's ok if you call her Zorro! This puppy was found by an FDNY firefighter in the Bronx, and then rescued by Bully Project, who whisked her into a loving foster home. Frankie is working on her basic obedience training like a little champ, and is happily playing with kids and other pups. If you're looking for a new buddy, check out Frankie's pictures on her Adopt NY page, then ask Bully Project about meeting her: www.adoptny.org/frankie-2/
