*****SAFER: AVERAGE HOME *****
A rose is the symbol of love and beauty and our Rose is so appropriately named. She's a beautiful little girl who is loving and looking for a new family to love her as much as she will love them. Likely housetrained, she 'went' as soon as she was out the door. As she walked (she has lovely leash manners), her brindle coat looks clean and well taken care of. Her nails are trimmed, her weight is perfect for her size; this is a little girl who seem to have been someone's beloved pet until she landed at the ACC. She's tail waggingly friendly to all - both two legged and four legged, waving her tail appropriately at dogs we met in the park. She likes to watch the birds and does pull towards them as they fly off. Rose is petite in size, and aced her behavior assessment indicating she will be a good fit in just about any home. This calm, gentle, and quiet girl is a bit camera shy so it was hard to capture just how beautiful she is. Please help us save Rose tonight. She is available for adoption on the ACC's public adoption site, tonight.

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.
For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go unnoticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

A volunteer writes; Mama seemed to be ready for me when I appeared at her door.. She is a beautiful dog who looks like the man/woman's best friend.. Mama was surrendered into our care when her masters became homeless. No wonder she was so upset when she came in. Indeed, Mama was owned all her life and is said to be a very good girl by her former owners. Mama walks beautifully on the leash, seems to be housetrained as related to us by her former family. She appears to like other dogs and is mostly interested in her relationship with her caretaker. Mama is beautiful, relatively well nourished and healthy. Her coat is well groomed.. She can make a happy face and a very serious one. She can be the well behaved companion and the fun one, playing ball or with a toy. She is quite affectionate, sitting very tight against my legs, looking frequently at me . We are a pair. We are friends...I really like Mama . She did guard her bowl of food during her behavioral assessment at the care center. This will have to be addressed by her potential adopter if the issue persists in the home. Mama is a great dog waiting to start her life all over again with you. A Volunteer Writes: Please rescue this AMAZING, wonderful, gorgeous heart-stealer of a dog!!!!! Mama adores people, is gracious and generous around other canines, and is so beautifully mannered that it is humbling to be with her--you'll want to stand up a little straighter and act a little kinder when you are in her presence, if only to folllow her example. She strolls along perfectly at her walker's side, swishing her pretty tail from side to side, relieving herself immediately upon hitting the curb having waited for a walk for hours, and takes treats from her walker's hands with gentle kindness and a gentle mouth. Mama is serene, loving, low-energy, low-maintence...in other words, there is NOTHING not to treasure about this loving, meditative girl. Mama would be delighted to have a home of any kind--she takes it as it comes, and I can imagine her as happy in couch-potato role as keeping a fellow jogger company. The only thing she doesn't have going for her is a home, and she sure is eager for that.

Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.See More
