FLAGS is an 18 week old, black and rust, natural and docked male who came to DRU because he is deaf. He is a healthy, robust puppy who has started to learn hand signals. Flags is outgoing and curious with people and social with other dogs. He needs to be kept safe within a fenced area or on a leash. It is imperative that Flags' new owner take lessons with him from a trainer who is experienced working with deaf dogs. This little fellow is going to be a project for someone. The payoff will be well worth the effort! ww.dru.org

Brave Pit bull gets shot and saves dad's life while protecting her family from armed intruders
In the middle of the night, four intruders broke into a family's home while they slept. One man was armed with a shotgun, and if it had not been for the heroics of the family's Pit bull, Lefty, the father would have been shot.
Lefty protected her parents and the children when one robber pointed the shotgun at her dad. "She went straight for him," said Dr. Michele Leatherbury, owner of Atlantic Animal Hospital in Accomack County, Virginia, told
delmarvaNow.com.
Lefty jumped at the intruder, blocking his shot and was hit in her shoulder. When Lefty arrived at the hospital on July 25, the staff shared her story on
their Facebook page, describing what had happened to her:
"'I saved my family member’s lives on Monday night and now I need your help!! In the middle of the night, 4 intruders entered my family home while my parents and the children were sleeping. They tried to shoot at my Dad - but I jumped in the way and the shotgun blast hit me instead.'"
They continued:
She [Lefty] arrived at Atlantic Animal Hospital in shock and bleeding from a huge wound in her shoulder, which tore up her muscles and shattered her humerus bone. She is doing very well after emergency treatment but since her family was robbed, they have no way to pay for all of her care, including the surgery she needs on her shoulder.
Their Facebook post went viral and over the weekend 100% of the funds needed to cover Lefty's medical costs were raised.
Lefty had her right leg amputated but is doing well. By Friday, she was walking around "like she's been a 3-legged dog her entire life!" according to the hospital's Facebook page. And on Monday she returns to her family, who are not only extremely grateful that Lefty is alive after her brave actions, but are also thankful for the outpouring of support from strangers in their time of need.
Below is a video of Lefty, showing how well she is doing post-surgery.

Like every "Momma" will say...
Smoking is not good for you.
This sweet girl, has survived near death, she was starved and found on the side of the road. Her immune system still fighting forward and hair almost back. Happy girl with some health issues, looking for Love & a Forever home.
All 10 year old Oreo understands about being “homeless” is that her owner of 7 years had to leave her at Manhattan ACC and that she’s been sitting in a cramped small cage, surrounded by barking dogs, waiting for somebody to take her outside, and wanting to so get back to her home, her bed, her toys… Actually Oreo has turned out to be a pretty special little one. She was found to have 10 year old eyes and her mammary glands need to be checked for tumors. And she wowed everybody during her behavioral assessment—AVERAGE rating—all 1’s and 2’s including dog on dog; described by assessor as “friendly and sociable” “calm and relaxed”. But her owner said she was a great dog—she’s lived with and been friendly to other dogs and cats; is friendly to children and adults; walks well on a leash; knows commands—an all around “great dog”. But being a “great dog” doesn’t get you extra time at ACC and Oreo’s on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Tonight, she needs to find the special someone who has a place in their home and their heart for a good senior dog who just wants to please. Oreo needs to get back to having a soft bed; to nuzzling up and to playing and going out on walks to explore and see what life has to offer. Are you that someone? Can you see yourself with this sweetheart of a dog? If you can, then speak up right now to foster or adopt Oreo. Tomorrow she will be gone—and that would be such a tragedy for a little peanut of a dog who is trying so hard to show how good she is!

Rescuzilla is a 501(c)3 Animal Rescue of NYC that works via Animal Care & Control to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs from New York City’s overcrowded and underfunded shelter system. Rescuzilla was founded in 2009 by Susan Cava in the hopes of putting a dent in the incomprehensible 4,000,000 dogs put to sleep each year simply because no one wanted them. The Rescuzilla team includes Susan Cava, Katherine Good, Carolina Leon-Duarte, Alfonso Sawadan, Lesli VanSchaick & Dena/Tommy Amendola.
90% of our dogs are pit bulls; not just because they are most in need, but because we love and adore these most misunderstood dogs. We are selective about what dogs come into our group, and try and focus on those who would be otherwise overlooked and consequently face euthanasia.
The Rescuzilla team are proud to be registered volunteers with Animal Care and Control where we provide hands on care for the many homeless animals there. Through our interaction with these animals we are able to find the appropriate foster dogs/cats for our group.
