Senator
Joyce's gifts raise concerns
JUST
LOTS OF COUPONS TO THE MILTON SUNGLASS HUT: Some are questioning the ethics behind Senator Brian Joyce's gift to his peers. Last month he gave each member of the Senate expense sunglasses that retail around $234 to $244, the Boston Globe reports. However, he negotiated a price that was much lower than that. "Politicians, according to state ethics rules, are not supposed to receive discounts that are not available to others," according to the Boston Globe. - http://bit.ly/1EtWsfi

Kerry
fined for not cleaning snow
Somewhere
in the Herald newsroom there's a buzzer that goes off and balloons fall from the ceiling when something like this happens: Secretary of State John Kerry received a ticket for not shoveling the sidewalk along his Boston home. "City Hall hit America's top diplomat with a $50 ticket yesterday after another citizen called it in to the Inspectional Services Department. His was one of 210 snow-removal citations issued yesterday," the Herald reports. "Well, you know, when ISD goes out, they're indiscriminate about who they ticket and who they don't," Keeta Gilmore, the chairwoman of the Beacon Hill Civic Association said to the Herald. "Sounds like they're out on the job." Which are incidentally the nicest words the paper has ever run about city employees, but who cares - John Kerry got a ticket!
Sportsball:
Some stuff about sports balls
Speaking
of beautiful humans, here are local big shot actors talking about why they, and not Tom Brady, deflated those balls. - http://bit.ly/1uIyhRC |

SONG
OF THE FRIDAY: Paul Engemann's Push it to the Limit. Obviously. Just imagine it's the House and instead of cash, all the money is legislation and the wedding celebration is just passing the budget. The tiger's the same though, and I think they're all wearing the same style suits. - http://bit.ly/1yKhFt6
BIRTHDAYS:
None today, but Former Rep. and current Boston Beer Company lobbyist Kathi-Anne Reinstein is tomorrow, and former Patrick administration digital dude Eric Haynes and Boston City Councillor Tim McCarthy celebrate Sunday. |
What's
in Capitol Today:
In
a piece titled "What's Karyn Polito up to?" (Answer: Just LGin', bro.) Akilah Johnson looks at how Gov. Baker has utilized his feisty running mate now that he's in charge. "But already Polito and Baker have begun to carve out a job description that relies heavily on her base of support in Central Massachusetts, experience in municipal and legislative affairs, and background in development. She also plans to focus on homelessness, domestic violence, and empowering women." - http://bit.ly/1wHVmDC
Also
in the section is a profile on Francisco Urena, Baker's new veteran's services chief. - http://bit.ly/1JTBnLi
