Meteorologists and state and officials are keeping an eye on the storm headed our way. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has issued a "situational awareness statement" for this weekend. The experts all seem to agree that the effect the storm will have on Massachusetts, and more specifically Cape Cod, is based on the way the storm tracks.
Any storm activity will likely begin Saturday afternoon and continue into Sunday. As it stands now, the heaviest snow is expected over Southeastern Massachusetts. If the storm stays close to the coast, more snow is expected up north. If it heads out to sea, there will likely be less snow, according to MEMA and the National Weather Service..
Either way, the Cape & Islands can expect strong winds and coastal flooding. Northwest winds up to 50 mph are expected Saturday night into Sunday morning. Such winds may result in power outages and downed tree limbs.
As for flooding, the strong winds and a high astronomical tide could lead to areas of coastal flooding from Plymouth to the Upper Cape and Nantucket, according to the statement.
The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call Thursday to discuss this weekend. According to BCREPC, snowfall should be less than originally anticipated. The committee will make a decision about activating the regional shelter system closer to storm time. BCREPC is encouraging Cape Cod residents to remain "weather aware" and be prepared for winter weather conditions.

As it makes its way north, the storm is having a much greater impact on the Mid Atlantic region.
