Trump: 'I consider myself the presumptive nominee, absolutely' | 26 April 2016 | Donald Trump declared himself the "presumptive nominee" in a victory speech from Trump Tower on Tuesday night, after dominating five Republican presidential-primary contests. Shortly after the polls closed on Tuesday evening, several networks projected that the candidate would sweep through the day's five primary contests. He won primaries in Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Pennsylvania..."I consider myself the presumptive nominee, absolutely," Trump said during a speech and press conference at Trump Tower in New York City. He said later: "As far as I'm concerned, it's over."

 

Donald Trump Sweeps 5 States; Hillary Clinton Takes 4 | 26 April 2016 | Donald J. Trump crushed his Republican opponents in Pennsylvania, Maryland and three other states on Tuesday, a sweep that put him considerably closer to capturing the party's presidential nomination outright, while Hillary Clinton won Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland and Delaware and was battling to amass enough delegates to claim the Democratic nomination as early as mid-May. Mr. Trump's success intensified the aura of inevitability around his bid to lead the Republicans, and created urgent new challenges for his rivals. More significant, it increased his chances of avoiding a fight on the floor of the party's convention in July and of claiming the nomination on the delegates' first ballot.

With 84 percent of precincts reporting, she won 50.3 percent of the vote to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders's 47.9 percent. Clinton had a big night, winning four of five contests. As a result, the window of opportunity has all but slammed shut on Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders's underdog bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

 

Sanders wins Democratic primary in Rhode Island | 26 April 2016 | Bernie Sanders has won the Democratic presidential primary in Rhode Island, offering the Vermont senator modest gains in the race against front-runner Hillary Clinton. Sanders's win Tuesday blocks a potential sweep of the day's five races by Clinton, who has already won three out of the five contests.

 

Clinton wins Connecticut primary | 26 Apr 2016 | Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is projected to win the Connecticut primary. Fox News and NBC News called the race around 10:30 p.m. EDT. Polls closed at 8 p.m. The win will give Clinton the majority of the state's 55 pledged delegates, expanding her lead and inching her closer to the nomination.

 

Hillary Clinton Wins Pennsylvania's Democratic Primary | 26 Apr 2016 | Hillary Clinton beat Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Pennsylvania's Democratic presidential primary, nabbing the biggest pr-z- in Tuesday's elections and further widening her delegate lead over Sanders. She also won Tuesday's primary contests in Delaware and Maryland.

 

GOP Primary Results: Trump Projected to Sweep All 5 States in 'Acela Primary' | 26 April 2016 | Voters headed to the polls in five states today for the "Acela primary." ABC News projects Donald Trump will win the Connecticut, Maryland and Pennsylvania GOP primaries, based on exit poll data analysis. ABC News projects Trump will also win the Rhode Island and Delaware GOP primaries, based on vote analysis.

 

Chris Van Hollen and Katie McGinty Win Senate Primary Races | 26 April 2016 | Two establishment Democrats - Representative Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and Katie McGinty, a former chief of staff to the governor of Pennsylvania - won key Senate primaries on Tuesday, ending a contentious primary season in both states. In Baltimore, The Associated Press declared another favorite of the party establishment, State Senator Catherine E. Pugh, the winner out of a crowded field of mayoral candidates, with the victor in this heavily Democratic city almost certain to prevail in November...In Pennsylvania, Ms. McGinty will face Senator Patrick J. Toomey, a vulnerable Republican, in one of the races that could help determine control of the Senate.

 

CIA doesn't have to disclose info on drone killings, appeals court rules | 25 April 2016 | A federal appeals court has rejected a freedom of information lawsuit brought about by the American Civil Liberties Union, ruling that the government doesn't have to disclose the victims of CIA "targeted killings" by drones. The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit last week upheld a lower court's 2013 dismissal of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The request, made by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), was filed in an attempt to obtain records on the use of military drones, such as intended targets, locations, and how many people died from the strikes.

 

'Your system failed to tackle our attacks. Now we will crush you again': Pro-ISIS hackers post 'kill list' of US government department employees --'Kill list' of 43 people linked to various US government departments | 26 April 2016 | A pro-ISIS [I-CIA-SIS] hackers group who call themselves United Cyber Caliphate distributed a 'kill list' Monday that appears to include dozens of U.S. government personnel. The post appeared on social network site Telegram, one of the main applications it uses to disseminate propaganda. The list, obtained by Vocativ, features 43 names of people linked to the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the departments of defense, energy, commerce and health and services.

 

Protesters break into Finnish-Russian nuclear site| 26 Apr 2016 | Anti-nuclear protesters broke in to a construction site on Tuesday for a nuclear reactor to be supplied by Russia's state-owned nuclear firm Rosatom, choosing the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster for their demonstration. Police estimated that close to 50 protesters gathered near the Fennovoima site in northern Finland and around 40 were detained. One group broke in to the site while others lay down on the road leading to the site's entrance, police said.

 

Hollande vows to shut down France's oldest nuclear power plant over environmental, safety concerns | 26 April 2016 | The French President has promised to formally initiate the shutdown of the country’s oldest nuclear reactors on the grounds of environmental and safety concerns surrounding the Fessenheim power plant near the German and Swiss borders. Fessenheim houses two 920 megawatt reactors and has been running since 1978, making it France's oldest operating plant. Due to its age, the German government and activists alike have long been calling for it to be permanently closed. 

 

Man fleeing robbery jumps fence near White House: Secret Service | 26 April 2016 | A man fleeing a nearby robbery jumped the fence of a building next to the White House on Tuesday afternoon and was taken into custody by the Secret Service, the agency said in a statement. The incident prompted a 20-minute lockdown of the White House, a Secret Service official said. The unidentified man jumped the west fence of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is on the White House campus and sits just west of the executive mansion, the agency's statement said.

 

DHS agents accompany Brookfield, CT, detectives to travel to Maine to arrest Adam Lanza's former psychiatrist [Wow! I wonder what this guy did or wouldn't do?] | 22 April 2016 | A former psychiatrist who treated Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza when he was a teenager was arrested this week and charged with sexual assault after police say he carried on a sexual relationship with a former patient. Brookfield detectives traveled to Paul Fox's residence in Peaks Island, Maine, to take him into custody Wednesday with the assistance of Homeland Security Agents, police said. Police said the relationship occurred between October 2010 and October 2011...Fox told detectives in a Dec. 17, 2012, telephone interview that he had destroyed any records he had of his treatment of Lanza but recalled last seeing him when Lanza was about 15.

 

Anti-Trump protester pepper-sprays five people, including two little girls, during demonstration in Anaheim| 26 April 2016 | Supporters and opponents of Donald Trump clashed Tuesday outside City Hall [in Orange County, CA], and five people, including two little girls, were pepper-sprayed by a demonstrator during the heated confrontation, police said...At one point, an opponent unleashed a hand-held pepper-spray device on the pro-Trump crowd. Five people, including two girls ages 8 and 11, were exposed to the eye-stinging spray, police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. Three were treated at the scene by paramedics.

 

54 arrests made in HB2 protest as lawmakers convene | 26 Apr 2016 | A total of 54 protesters were arrested Monday evening, as some interrupted lawmakers when the short session convened Monday. Protesters inside the House chamber started shouting as state lawmakers tried to adjourn Monday night, less than 30 minutes after they reconvened for this year's short session.
