Fukushima clean-up chief still hunting for 600 tonnes of melted radioactive fuel --10 million bags of contaminated radioactive soil have been removed | 25 May 2016 | The operator of the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant has revealed that 600 tonnes of reactor fuel melted during the disaster, and that the exact location of the highly radioactive blobs remains a mystery. In an exclusive interview with Foreign Correspondent, the Tokyo Electric Power Company's chief of decommissioning at Fukushima, Naohiro Masuda, said the company hoped to pinpoint the position of the fuel and begin removing it from 2021. But he admitted the technology needed to remove the fuel has to be invented.
Saudi-Owned Paper Claims U.S. Government 'Planned and Carried Out' 9/11 Terrorist Attacks - MEMRI| 21 May 2016 | The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) has translated an Al-Hayat articlethat claims the U.S. government "planned and carried out" the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Al-Hayat, based in London, is owned by Saudi Prince Khalid bin Sultan -- a member of the Saudi royal family. The MEMRI-translated article was originally published on April 28, under the byline of Saudi legal expert Katib Al-Shammari. Among other diatribes, Al-Shammari mocks Congress for introducing the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA). The U.S. Senate passed JASTA on May 17, and the bill is now under review by the House Judiciary Committee...Americans remain divided over who they believe is responsible for the 9/11 attacks, and Al-Shammari is advancing a controversial, yet ongoing [and accurate] belief among people across the world.
US spy plane flew 'dangerously close' to passenger jets near Russian border - MoD | 23 May 2016 | A US defense attache has been summoned by Russia's Defense Ministry after an incident over the Sea of Japan near Russia's eastern borders, where an American spy plane was detected flying too close to civilian aircraft. Russia's air defense detected an RC-135 spy plane belonging to US Air Force on Sunday, the ministry said in its statement. The plane was on an air reconnaissance mission with all of its transponders having been shut off, it added. The US crew had not provided any information regarding its flight to air traffic controllers in the region, despite it flying at the same altitude as scheduled civil aviation flights.
Over 100 killed as blasts hit near Russian military bases in Syria's Latakia province | 23 May 2-16 | Over 100 people are feared dead after seven blasts targeted several locations in the coastal towns of Jableh and Tartus, Syria's Latakia province. The locations are close to two Russian military facilities: the Khmeimim airbase and the Tartus naval base. Islamic State [I-CIA-SIS] militants claimed the attacks saying via its news outlet, Amaq, that "gatherings of Alawites in Tartous and Jableh" had been targeted. The Alawites is the minority sect to which President Bashar Assad belongs.

The logical explanation is an explosion': Forensic chief says 80 body parts retrieved from MS804 suggest blast downed plane | 24 May 2016 | Human remains retrieved from the EgyptAir 804 crash site point to an explosion on board, an Egyptian forensic official said today. The official is part of the investigation team that has personally examined the body parts taken to a Cairo morgue...The official, who declined to be named, said 'the logical explanation is that it was an explosion' that may have brought down the jet over the Mediterranean Sea. His assessment was backed up by the head of the Egyptian Forensic Medicine Authority. Dr Hesham Abdel-Hamid told MailOnline the body parts recovered from the Mediterranean had injuries consistent with an explosion. He said: 'Analysis of the remains of the victims flight MS804 indicated there was an explosion on the plane'.
Turkish Airlines plane with 134 people on board evacuated after bomb threat found on note in cabin | 24 May 2016 | A Turkish Airlines aircraft at Istanbul's main airport was evacuated and searched after a note threatening a bomb attack was found on board. All 134 people, including the crew, who had been on board the flight from Ataturk Airport to the central Turkish city of Kayseri had been evacuated, a spokesman said. Another plane was later arranged for them yesterday (Monday), and the bomb threat was later revealed to be a hoax.
TSA Replaces Head of Security as Airport Lines Keep Getting Longer | 23 May 2016 |The Transportation Security Administration moved dramatically Monday to address the issue of long lines at the nation's airports, replacing its head of security and creating a centralized incident command team at TSA headquarters. Kelly Hoggan, the agency's assistant administrator for security operations since 2013, will be replaced by Darby LaJoye, TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger said in an internal memo obtained by NBC News. Hoggan, who has been the focus of congressional inquiries into staffing and pay decisions, was reassigned to new duties, Neffenger said.

By Lori Price, www.legitgov.org. | 25 May 2016 | Today, we read: 60 percent of downtown Seattle lost power in outage | 25 May 2016 | Downtown Seattle's core lost power during a large outage -- leading to dark intersections, traffic delays, and building evacuations. Seattle City Light says that equipment failure at the Massachusetts and Union substation is where an equipment failure happened, triggering the power outage. It is unclear what caused the failure.

Authorities conducting training drill in Puget Sound Wednesday | 25 May 2016 | Authorities conducting training drill in Puget Sound Wednesday | 25 May 2016 | During the evening rush hour Wednesday, it will look like a disaster is happening in Seattle's Elliott Bay. The King County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Section is hosting a multi-agency maritime training drill. The scenario will involve an active shooter and hostage situation on a ferry or vessel in Puget Sound. The exercise will be conducted near Harbor Island and will also include the Seattle Police Department, Washington State Patrol, F.B.I., U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protections and King County Medic One.

Two FBI agents shot while serving warrant in Chicago suburb | 24 May 2016 | Two FBI agents were shot and wounded in a Chicago suburb on Tuesday as they tried to arrest an alleged gang member wanted for dealing drugs, and the suspect was killed, the FBI and local media said. The agents suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, said Garrett Croon, spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Chicago. The man they were trying to arrest was found dead in the Park Forest, Illinois, home where an arrest warrant was being served, Croon said.
In Vietnam, Obama Assures Passage of Trans-Pacific 'Trade' Deal | 23 May 2016 | President Barack Obama assures political leaders during a visit to Vietnam that his Trans-Pacific trade deal corporate takeover would pass eventually -- even though all three candidates running for president remain opposed to the deal. "I remain confident we're going to get it done and the reason I'm confident is because it’s the right thing to do." Obama said during a press conference with President Quang of Vietnam. Vietnam arguably has the most to benefit among the nations in the TPP 'trade' deal, which could spark increased corporate investments in manufacturing [and continue the destruction of America by Obama's corpora-terrorist over-lords].
Clinton Broke Federal Rules With Email Server, Audit Finds | 25 May 2016 | Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton violated federal records rules through her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, a State Department audit has concluded. "At a minimum, Secretary Clinton should have surrendered all emails dealing with Department issues before leaving government service," says an audit by the State Department Inspector General, obtained by NBC News. "Because she did not do so, she did not comply with the [State] Department's policies that were implemented in accordance with the Federal Records Act." The audit found that the non-compliance over personal email went beyond Clinton, and that former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, also failed to preserve government-related emails when he was secretary of state. The State Department asked Powell to try to receive relevant emails from his internet provider, but "as of May 2016 the Department has not received a response" from Powell, the audit said.
Several arrested after Trump supporters and opponents square off at rally in Anaheim | 25 May 2016 | Supporters and critics of Donald Trump squared off Wednesday as the presidential candidate held a rally in Anaheim, with police making several arrests after some demonstrators threw objects at them. After Trump departed, a small group of protesters remained in the area, ignoring orders by police to disperse. One trash can was set on fire, some protesters threw rocks, and large throngs of police were trying to push the remaining demonstrators away. Around the Anaheim Convention Center, lines of mounted police moved through the streets, with several dozen protesters in front of them.

Trump wins GOP presidential primary in Washington state | 24 May 2016 | Donald Trump has won the Republican primary in Washington state, helping him inch closer to claiming the GOP nomination for president. The businessman's victory Tuesday pulls him within 44 delegates of the number needed to become the Republican nominee. Trump won at least 24 delegates in Washington state, with 20 still left to be allocated. He has 1,193 delegates. It takes 1,237 delegates to win the GOP nomination.
Clinton wins Washington's Democratic primary; results won't affect delegate allocation | 24 May 2016 | Hillary Clinton has won Washington state's Democratic presidential primary, however the results don't affect the allocation of delegates. The former secretary of state was leading Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in early returns Tuesday. Washington has both a presidential primary and a caucus system. But Democrats will ignore the results of Tuesday's primary, having chosen to continue to use the party caucus system to allocate their national convention delegates. Sanders handily won the Democratic caucuses in March.
Democratic presidential candidate Sanders seeks recount in Kentucky | 24 May 2016 | U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Tuesday requested a recount in the close Kentucky presidential primary against front-runner Hillary Clinton, state election officials said on Tuesday. The recanvass will take place at all 120 county boards of election on Thursday, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Grimes. Clinton won Kentucky by just 1,924 votes, according to the unofficial totals posted on the secretary of state's elections page.
Ohio violated voting rights by reducing early voting - U.S. judge | 24 May 2016 | A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that Ohio violated voters' rights in 2014 by cutting the number of days in which people were allowed to cast early ballots to 28 from 35. Judge Michael Watson of U.S. District Court in Columbus ordered Ohio to reinstate the 35-day period and also to grant residents a week-long opportunity to register and cast a ballot at the same time - a period known as "Golden Week." If the ruling stands, voters in Ohio will be able to vote a full 35 days before the general election on Nov. 8.
Virginia governor under FBI probe over campaign donations - CNN | 23 May 2016 | Terry McAuliffe, Virginia's Democratic governor and chairman of Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential run, is under federal investigation over contributions to his 2013 campaign, CNN said on Monday, citing unnamed U.S. officials. The U.S. Justice Department's year-long investigation has focused, at least in part, on whether contributions to McAuliffe's gubernatorial campaign, including 120,000 from a Chinese businessman, Wang Wenliang, violated the law, according to CNN.
11 States Sue Obama Administration Over Transgender Bathroom Directive | 25 May 2016 | Eleven states have filed a lawsuit against Barack Obama's administration, challenging the government's directive that transgender individuals should be permitted to use bathrooms that match their gender identity. Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin, along with one Arizona and one Texas school district, signed the 32-page lawsuit, which was filed today in a federal court in Dallas. It accuses the Obama administration of violating federal law and the U.S. Constitution.
Justice Dept. seeking death penalty in Charleston church massacre case | 24 May 2016 | The Justice Department intends to seek the death penalty against Dylann Roof, the man charged with killing nine black parishioners last year in a church in Charleston, South Carolina, Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Tuesday. Roof is awaiting trial on federal hate crime charges in connection with the June 17 shooting at Emanuel AME Church, which contributed to a national conversation about race relations and also led to the removal of a Confederate battle flag from the South Carolina Statehouse.
U.S. Supreme Court rules for black Georgia death row inmate; Clarence Thomas is sole dissenter | 23 May 2016 | The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday ruled in favor of a black Georgia death row inmate convicted in 1987 of murdering an elderly white woman, finding that prosecutors unlawfully excluded black potential jurors in selecting an all-white jury. In a 7-1 ruling, the court handed a victory to inmate Timothy Foster, 48, who asserted prosecutorial misconduct after he was convicted and sentenced to death in the 1986 murder of Queen White, a 79-year-old retired schoolteacher. The justices threw out Foster's conviction after decades on death row. He could still potentially face a retrial.
Baltimore police officer acquitted in Freddie Gray death | 23 May 2016 | Baltimore police officer Edward Nero was acquitted on Monday of all charges in the 2015 death of black detainee Freddie Gray, an incident that triggered rioting and protests and fueled the Black Lives Matter movement. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams, who heard the case in a bench trial, issued the verdict before a packed courtroom. Nero, 30, had faced misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct in office. Mayor [corporate troll] Stephanie Rawlings-Blake issued a statement urging calm and said Nero would face an administrative review by the police department.
U.S. judge rules Bill Cosby must stand trial on sexual assault charges | 24 May 2016 | A Pennsylvania judge on Tuesday ordered 'entertainer' Bill Cosby to stand trial on sexual assault charges over allegations that he drugged and assaulted a woman in 2004. The ruling came after a preliminary hearing that Cosby attended in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in which witnesses testified about statements that Cosby and his accuser, Andrea Constand, gave to police in 2005. Constand, a former basketball coach at Cosby's Temple University alma mater, is the only woman whose accusations of sexual assault have resulted in criminal charges against Cosby.
