GM CEO Mary Barra Was Considered As Hillary Clinton’s Vice President Pick

Thank the internet hackers for this bit of news, first reported by Jalopnik. After a slew of email leaks from Democratic presidential candidate Hilary Clinton’s campaign, one very familiar name was found on Clinton’s short list of vice president picks: Mary Barra.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra landed on the list to become Hilary Clinton’s running mate among a handful of other interesting choices for the democratic presidential candidate. The emails, in particular, come from Clinton’s campaign manager, John Podesta, and continue to be exposed by WikiLeaks.
The emails reveal Clinton’s “first cut of people to consider for VP” also included Bill and Melinda Gates, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Michael Bloomberg.
Barra is a curious case, though. With an engineering background before going on to lead one of the world’s largest automakers, Barra has never once held public office through her 36-year career with GM.
However, she has been praised countlessly for her handling of GM’s ignition switch recall fiasco with transparency and sincerity and has also turned the automaker towards the course of prosperity following GM’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2009. She has also been recognized for her efforts to transform GM’s corporate culture and been named the world’s most powerful woman two years in a row.
It’s unclear if Barra was ever actually approached about the possibility of being Clinton’s running mate, of if she actually had any interest in the gig whatsoever.
If anything, her consideration cements Barra as a seriously influential businesswoman.
