The disease has already killed more than 171 people in Madagascar alone, with thousands more confirmed cases across the east African country. A local news crew following one health worker in the stricken city heard doctors informing residents that the new strain of the disease "can kill in three hours". Earlier this week, infection and immunity expert Dr Matthew Avison told Daily Star Online that the "extremely rare" disease has been "resilient" to antibiotics. A spokesman for the World Health Organisation admitted there were fears that this strain of plague -- which is now believed to be airborne -- could cause a global outbreak of the disease. 

 

Plague spreads to dozens of health workers amid fears Madagascar can't contain black death | 16 Nov 2017 | The plague outbreak in Madagascar has spread to health workers, with dozens struck down by the black death. A staggering 82 health workers have been struck down by the disease -- about around four per cent of the total number of cases -- according to latest figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO)...There are also fears the disease could develop a resistance to the antibiotics being used to treat victims, which would likely see the number of cases surge. At least 2,119 cases of the plague have been reported and the death toll is continuing to rise with the disease having now claimed 171 lives, according to latest WHO figures. 

 

DHS plans outdoor biological drill for 2018 on border of Oklahoma and Kansas, spurring protest | 13 Nov 2017 | Residents living in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and Kansas at the border are worried after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to simulate the effects of biological weapons on buildings just outside their city under the DHS Science & Technology Directorate (S&T) which will conduct a program called the Hazards of Dynamic Outdoor Releases (HODOR). This has spawned protest against the decision, KWCH reported. In a statement on their website, the DHS said they would be releasing non-hazardous [we hope], non-toxic chemicals and biological materials at the Chilocco Indian Agricultural School planned for early next year and then again over the summer. According to DHS representatives thatspoke to CNN, they will be testing the impact on buildings if terrorists [such as themselves] were to [when they] release a biological weapon. This has worried residents of Oklahoma and Kansas who are wonderingwhy the DHS is testing biological warfare in their city.

A pro-ISIS propaganda channel made the threat in a poster depicting a car attack. The poster - reading "Christmas blood" - depicts a masked jihadi driving a vehicle towards St Peter's Basilica, where Pope Francis holds mass. An assault rifle and a rucksack are visible on the seat next to the driver, who is using a sat nav and driving at high speed.

ISIS uploaded its latest propaganda video on Nov. 10, titled "Snipers of the South -- Wilayat al-Janub." The nearly six-minute video details ISIS sniper operations. In one scene, an ISIS fighter can be seen firing what appears to be a homemade high caliber anti-material gun. The video later focuses on an ISIS sniper and his spotter. The spotter is carrying a FLIR BHM thermal camera, and the shooter is operating a U.S. M4 with an unknown scope. [Hmm. How did they get them? 'Rare opportunity': Pentagon confirms joint drill of 3 aircraft carriers in Pacific | 09 Nov 2017 | Three US aircraft carrier strike groups will hold joint drills in the Western Pacific, the Pentagon has confirmed. It comes as the US President continues his Asia tour, reiterating Washington's willingness to use military force against Pyongyang if necessary. In the largest naval exercise in a decade, the USS Nimitz, USS Ronald Reagan and USS Theodore Roosevelt strike groups will soon join forces in the Pacific, Reuters first reported Monday. The Reuters report added that a Japanese destroyer, the Inazuma, will join the US maneuvers.

 

Trump asks for another $4bn to 'detect, defeat, and defend' against North Korea | 07 Nov 2017 | President Donald Trump wants lawmakers to give the Pentagon an additional 4 billion for "urgent" missile defense improvements against North Korea and nearly 2 billion more to increase troop levels in Afghanistan by 3,500 and repair damaged naval ships. In a letter sent to House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) on Monday, Trump asked Congress to consider budget amendments to give the Department of Defense an extra 4 billion for "defense enhancements to counter the threat from North Korea."

Saudi-led warplanes strike defense ministry in Yemeni capital | 11 Nov 2017 | The defense ministry building in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, has been targeted in at least two airstrikes by Saudi-led coalition warplanes, local media and eyewitnesses report. There are fears of civilian casualties as nearby buildings were also reportedly hit. "There were two to three strikes on the Ministry of Defense," local journalist Hassain Abukhaiti told RT, confirming that Saudi-led planes are targeting the Yemeni capital. He said there are reports that "one of the missiles hit a house" near the military building. "A family was living there," the journalist said. "The house has been destroyed. It is very likely that the entire family was killed."

 

Drone strikes passenger Boeing descending over theme park in Argentina | 12 Nov 2017 | In a chilling incident in Argentina, a drone hit a passenger plane on approach as it was flying over Tierra Santa religious theme park in Buenos Aires. The jet landed safely. An Aerolineas Argentinas Boeing 737-800, flying from Trelew, northeastern Patagonia, was struck by a drone during the final landing approach to Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Airport, La Capital reports. At the time of the accident, the plane was flying over the Tierra Santa theme park.

 

5 Years After Sandy Hook Shooting, State Police Have Not Released Report on Response [to Drill Gone Live] --The preliminary report didn't include any interviews with Newtown police officers who were the first responders on the scene. ] | 12 Nov 2017 | Nearly five years since the Sandy Hook Elementary School 'shooting in which 26 children and educators were killed,' Connecticut state police have not released a report critiquing their response. And the status of the report has become a mystery...Multiple state police sources said that the report has been complete for more than a year and thatofficials are reluctant to release it, in part, because of criticisms about state police response and post-shooting actions. Then-Mst. Sgt. Erik Murray was assigned to do the after-action report within days of the massacre...In 2015, when The Hartford Courant first requested the report, Murray was transferred to headquarters and ordered to complete it. State police sources said that Murray completed a preliminary report that was shared with members of the Western District Crime Squad and other state police brass who were asked to make revisions around July of 2015. It is unclear what has happened to the report since those revisions were made.

Air Force missed at least two chances to stop Texas shooter buying guns | 09 Nov 2017 | The U.S. Air Force missed at least two chances to block the shooter in last weekend's deadly church attack in Texas from buying guns after he was accused of a violent offense in 2012, according to current and former government officials and a review of military documents. A third opportunity to flag shooter Devin Kelley was lost two years later by a twist of bad luck [?!] when a Pentagon inspection of cases narrowly missed the former airman. The Air Force said on Monday it had failed to provide information as required about Kelley's criminal history to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's criminal databases. It gave few other details about the omission.

The spill comes on the eve of a crucial decision by the Public Service Commission in Nebraska over whether to grant a permit for a new, long-delayed sister pipeline called Keystone XL, which has been mired in controversy for several years. Both are owned by Calgary-based TransCanada. The spill on the first Keystone pipeline is the latest in a series of incidents that critics of the new pipeline say shows that TransCanada should not receive another permit.

Sessions directs prosecutors to 'evaluate certain issues' involving Uranium One and Clinton, leaves door open on special counsel | 13 Nov 2017 | Attorney General Jeff Sessions directed senior federal prosecutors to evaluate "certain issues" requested by congressional Republicans, involving the sale of Uranium One and alleged unlawful dealings related to the Clinton Foundation, leaving the door open for an appointment of another special counsel. In a letter first obtained by Fox News, the Justice Department responded to July 27 and September 26 requests from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and other committee members, who called for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the matters in question. The letter comes on the eve of Sessions's testimony before the same committee, scheduled for Tuesday.

Rep says Congress paid out $15M to silence sex harassment victims | 14 Nov 2017 | The US congresswoman who testified that current members of Congress are known sex harassers said Tuesday night that 15 million in hush mon-y has been paid to accusers. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) told MSNBC that the millions have been doled out to alleged victims of harassment from congressional members over the past decade. She did not disclose which members of Congress have been accused of sexual misconduct. 

 

Two prominent Minnesota Democrats call on Al Franken to resign | 16 Nov 2017 | Two prominent members of Minnesota's Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party are calling on Sen. Al Franken to resign his Senate seat following allegations of sexual misconduct. Although many other Democrats have called the former comedian's actions disturbing, state auditor Rebecca Otto and Megan Thomas, president of the party's official Feminist Caucus, say he should leave office. 

 

Al Franken Issues Apology After Accusation of Forcible Kissing and Groping | 16 Nov 2017 | A growing national outcry over sexual harassment reached the Senate on Thursday, when a radio newscaster accused Al Franken, Democrat of Minnesota, of kissing and groping her without consent during a 2006 U.S.O. tour of the Middle East before he took public office. Mr. Franken, who has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate, almost immediately released an apology to the newscaster, Leeann Tweeden, who said that Mr. Franken forcibly kissed her during a rehearsal and groped her for a photo as she slept. After initially apologizing without fully acknowledging her all of her accusations, he then released another lengthier, more contrite statement that contested nothing.

 

Woman says Franken groped, kissed her without consent in 2006 | 16 Nov 2017 | A female radio news anchor said Thursday that Minnesota Democratic Sen. Al Franken groped and "forcibly kissed" her without her consent during an overseas USO tour in 2006, two years before Franken was elected to the Senate. The revelations have prompted Franken to apologize and ignited calls for a Senate ethics investigation into Franken's behavior. Leeann Tweeden is now a morning news anchor on TalkRadio 790 KABC in Los Angeles and posted her story in a lengthy post on the station's website...Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have each called on the Senate ethics committee to review Tweeden's account against Franken.

 

Cruz pulls support from Moore: Allegations merit 'criminal prosecution' if true | 13 Nov 2017 | Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday withdrew his support from Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore, saying allegations of sexual misconduct should be looked at by prosecutors. "As it stands, I can't urge the people of Alabama to support a campaign in the face of these charges without serious, persuasive demonstration that the charges are not true," the Texas Republican told reporters, according to a Texas Tribune reporter. "Both last week and this week, there are serious charges of criminal conduct that if true, not only make him unfit to serve in the Senate but merit criminal prosecution," he added.

 

Moore lashes out at Washington Post | 11 Nov 2017 | A defiant Roy Moore on Saturday adamantly denied accusations that he pursued romantic and sexual relationships with teenagers while he was in his 30s, instead charging that The Washington Post published "fake news" to advance its own political agenda. Speaking at a Mid-Alabama Republican Club event at the Vestavia Hills Public Library near Birmingham, the embattled Republican argued that the timing of the story just a few weeks before the special election for U.S. Senate was an attempt by the Post and his opponents to undercut his campaign.

 

House passes tax overhaul on party-line vote | 16 Nov 2017 | The House of Representatives passed its version of a tax overhaul Thursday, advancing a key Republican priority. The bill, called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, would cut the corporate rate to 20%; set up four tax brackets; and switch the U.S. to a so-called territorial tax system. The Senate Fin-nce Committee is working on a separate measure that differs in key respects, notably by repealing Obamacare's individual insurance mandate. The House bill passed 227 to 205. 

 

Mitch McConnell admits middle class America may see tax hike if new Republican Senate bill passes| 11 Nov 2017 | Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell is now admitting that some middle class Americans might see tax increases after all if the new Republican tax plan goes through. Kentucky Republican senator McConnell had previously stated that 'nobody in the middle class is going to a tax increase' under the new tax plan, but dialed back his assertion in a new interview. 'I misspoke on that,' McConnell told the New York Times on Friday, noting that it wasn't possible to guarantee that 'no one sees a tax increase.'

The Vermont-based ice cream company posted a tweet asking its followers, 'What is implicit bias, and how does it shape our actions? The answer might surprise you.' Although Enzer was the one to formally report Coons, the action was spurred by accusations from multiple students about Coons's repeated and intentional bigotry, according to Enzer...When information is reported to the Bias Response Line, an Office of Equal Opportunity employee listens to the report and determines any follow-up action, if necessary, the office said. If the office concludes that action should be taken, it relays the information to the specific school or department in which the original bias issue occurred."

 

Iran-Iraq earthquake death toll climbs to more than 400 --Rescuers battle to find survivors trapped under collapsed buildings after the 7.3-magnitude quake | 13 Nov 2017 | A powerful magnitude-7.3 earthquake has rocked the northern border region between Iran and Iraq, killing more than 400 people and injuring thousands more. Iran's state-run Irna news agency has raised the death toll to 407 and said 6,700 people were injured after the quake that struck the country's western provinces at 9.20pm local time on Sunday. Tremors were felt hundreds of miles away in both capitals, in Tehran and Baghdad. Local officials said the toll was likely to rise as search and rescue teams reached remote areas.
