" Chomsky said, “African-Americans had about two decades in which they had a shot of entering [American] society. A black worker could get a job in an auto plant, as the unions were still functioning, and he could buy a small house and send his kid to college. But by the 1970s and 1980s it’s going back to the criminalization of black life.”
“It’s called the drug war, and it’s a racist war. Ronald Reagan was an extreme racist — though he denied it — but the whole drug war is designed, from policing to eventual release from prison, to make it impossible for black men and, increasingly, women to be part of [American] society.”
“In fact,” he continued, “if you look at American history, the first slaves came over in 1619, and that’s half a millennium. There have only been three or four decades in which African-Americans have had a limited degree of freedom — not entirely, but at least some.”
“They have been re-criminalized and turned into a slave labor force — that’s prison labor,” Chomsky concluded. “This is American history. To break out of that is no small trick.”

History repeating itself.....

The Citizens United decision put a "for sale" sign on our democracy. Corporate special interests and billionaires like the Koch brothers have been spending millions to buy our elections. But we won't stop until we get big money OUT of politics and restore government by the People. Are you with us?

The Democracy for All amendment would protect the voice of the voter from being drowned out by big money. Add your name to support REAL democracy.

That is over $300,000 per person, per candidate, per year, so in essence a married couple can give any candidate 1.3 million in any two year campaign. They have made it so that the 1% are much better able to own their very own Governor, Congressman or Senator. This is now an oligarchy. Democracy is dead. There is only one way to revive it, VOTE, then and only then can we end VOTER suppression and gerrymandering and citizens united but we have given away so much power it will take us a generation to fix. We MUST find a way to empower people to VOTE in the mid-term elections too, not just in the big splashy, sexy General elections. HOW CAN WE INSPIRE VOTERS????

They hid this provision on page 1,599 of a 1,603 page bill for a reason. Congress was hoping to sneak this through quietly — Let's make sure that doesn't happen. Share this graphic to help spread the word!

“I don’t think anybody knew this was coming. But what the Republicans did is they pushed a bunch of terrible financial bills into the negotiations.”

Call your US House Rep. to vote NO and to then blame the Republican controlled House for proposing a "must pass" spending Bill at the last minute with no time for discussion, that nobody has read, with unacceptable provisions. Come on, folks.
