by Yale Environment 360

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/06/28/atmospheric-co2-level-may-not-drop-below-400-ppm-within-our-lifetimes/

Atmospheric concentrations of CO2 will stay permanently above 400 parts per million (ppm) this year due to El Nino—and will likely not drop below that number again “within our lifetimes,” according to a study published this week in the journal Nature.

Turkey-Israel Deal Leaves Gaza Siege Intact
by Ali Abunimah

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/06/28/turkey-israel-deal-leaves-gaza-siege-intact/

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip expressed anger and dismay on Monday about the deal normalizing relations between Israel and Turkey that leaves them under a suffocating siege. An Israeli human rights group that monitors the decade-old Israeli blockade of Gaza has also confirmed that the deal does not end Israel’s tight control over the territory that has greatly exacerbated the devastation to Gaza’s economy and society from three major Israeli military assaults since 2008.

Turkey has announced to restore its diplomatic relations with Israel almost after six years gap. Turkish President Erdogan has also tendered an apology to Russia for the downing of a Russian    SU-24 plane in last November, after which Russian President Putin had taken strong steps with respect to Turkey. Sanctions were put on Turkey causing a lot of harm to it.

Texas, Abortion And The US Supreme Court
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

Whole Woman’s Health v Hellerstedt shows otherwise, demonstrating the muscular assertiveness of the court as an arm of federal government that can transform as much as it impedes. For those on the side of the pro-abortion argument, the case was simple affirmation of an established rule.  For conservatives, it was a satanic product of an intrusively legal imagination.

Iceland’s Football Story: The Glory Of Public Football
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

Much silliness has been tossed around in attempting to understand the Icelandic achievement.   Closer examination shows structure in the home game, along with dedication and a generous contribution of resources to youth talent.

The Age of Disintegration: Neoliberalism, Interventionism, The Resource Curse, And A Fragmenting World
by Patrick Cockburn

We live in an age of disintegration. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Greater Middle East and Africa. Across the vast swath of territory between Pakistan and Nigeria, there are at least seven ongoing wars — in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, and South Sudan.

by Priti Gulati Cox

If worse comes to worst in November, please, let’s not blame Jill Stein or any other non-D, non-R, for it. How about we start with you and me for letting it come to this in the first place.

Gaza Tunnels Seen As Vital Tool Of Resistance
by Hamza Abu Eltarabesh

Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza have long used underground tunnels as an integral part of their military tactics. In this, they have taken a lesson from history. The Vietnamese dug an extensive network of tunnels in their battle against US troops, a network with which the American military never got to grips. Hizballah also went underground to resist the Israeli occupation of Lebanon and during Israel’s war on the country in 2006.

by Jadumani Mahanand

A person who has committed caste atrocity (fall under thePOA Act 1989),has also violated the fundamental principle of constitution and plagiarized in the academic research and still he is freely exercising his power and position. According to Indian constitution, a person who violates the law is a culprit and should get punishment. This is applied to Appa Rao as Vice Chancellor of University of Hyderabad who has committed this criminal act.

Myanmar In Transition And India
by Dr Walter Fernandes

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/06/28/myanmar-in-transition-and-india/

Civil society can thus play an important role in relations with the neighbour but they cannot do it without the government. State-civil society cooperation is essential to improve people to people relations too over and above official links. Unfortunately the government seems to be concerned more about competition with China than with friendship with Myanmar. China cannot be wished away. But the best way of dealing with it is to treat Myanmar as a friendly neighbour whom we need as a link with China rather than as a competitor.
