Dear Friend,
It has been seven days since Hurricane Maria swept over Puerto Rico. As each day passes, and with hundreds of towns and villages in the island’s interior that have yet to be heard from, information emerges that helps complete the picture of chaos and devastation that Governor Ricardo Rossello and the islands’ mayors and politicians are calling a “humanitarian crisis” for the island’s 3.4 million inhabitants.
Richard Heiberg warns that "Maria'' is a warning to rest of the world. How we respond and rebuild Puerto Rico can set a template for a resilient reaction to Climate Change.
Franklin Lamb who has spent decades in Lebanon and is well informed about the affairs of Hezbollah writes an article "Hezbollah Has Launched The Initial Phase Of The Next Israel-Hezbollah War". His warning should be taken seriously.
Also more stories from around the world.

Puerto Rico Is Our Future
by Richard Heinberg
We should all care a great deal about how the United States responds to the crisis in Puerto Rico. This could be an opportunity to prepare for metaphoric (and occasionally real) storms bearing down on everyone.
Hezbollah Has Launched The Initial Phase Of The Next Israel-Hezbollah War
by Franklin Lamb
This month (9/2017) Hezbollah is readying for launch its large arsenal of medium and long-range rockets to fire from day one of the coming open warfare stage. Hezbollah sources report that approximately 2000 rockets will be fired daily at Israel’s military, infrastructure, and civilian neighborhoods across Israel. This number exceeds the total average weekly number fired into Israel during the height of the 34 day 2006 war.
In Their Own Words: When Trump And Obama Sounded The Same
by Dr Ramzy Baroud
The nature of the rhetoric in Donald Trump’s first speech at the United Nations General Assembly was largely predictable. Even his bizarre threat to “totally destroy North Korea” was consistent with his overall style and previous warnings. But how different was his speech, if compared with the first and last UN speeches of President Barack Obama?
Debunking The Myth of Islamic State’s Presence in Af-Pak
by Nauman Sadiq
Recently, the Islamic State’s purported “terror franchises” in Afghanistan and Pakistan have claimed a spate of bombings against the Shi’a and Barelvi Muslims who are regarded as heretics by Takfiris. But to contend that the Islamic State is responsible for suicide blasts in Pakistan and Afghanistan is to declare that the Taliban are responsible for the sectarian war in Syria and Iraq.
How The State Can Create Its Own Money For Disaster Risk Reduction
by Anandi Sharan
I think there should be a new Reserve bank of India Act 2019 that any new Parliament should pass. It should have the following salient features: The state shall not consider foreign currency the reserve value of the country, but the reserve value for the Rupee shall be the labour power of all the adult citizens and the natural resources of their localities.
Alleviating AFSS: Acute Financial Stress Syndrome
by Pratap Antony
I concluded that the ailments that I suffered from over the last few weeks were due to anxiety and stress about my fiscal situation, my earning ability; my ability to stay solvent. I call this AFSS, Acute Financial Stress Syndrome. I called it a ‘Syndrome’ because of the cluster of symptoms that occurred at the same time to mark my period of stress and anxiety.

No-egg Diktat In West Bengal In Durga Pujo Is A Dangerous Trend Towards Cultural Homogenization In India!
by Amrita Datta
What the BJP is trying to establish in India is cultural homogenization through ruthless, imposed and forced Hindi-ization of the entire landmass formally known as ‘India’, and the culinary embargo on non-vegetarian food during Durga Pujo in West Bengal is its latest blow. The Radical Right, spearheaded by the champions of Hindutva, is telling us to all become the same, shed our cultural exclusivity and become Sanskari Hindus with a Satvik diet. They will not succeed as long as the idea of India is still alive, just because of the fact that each state in India is too different from its neighbor
Silence Of The Wolves
by Poornima Laxmeshwar
Load your revolvers with our blood
While we spill you back with words of truth
Bare as the rising sun
You are a mere coward
Faceless as the night
While we are the shifting names that change to resist
Dabholkar, Kalburgi, Pansare, Gauri
The trail of fire is lit
Aim and Shoot
