Merkel rebukes Trump politics in Harvard commencement speech: 'Tear down walls of ignorance'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has rejected Trump's brand of nationalism and called for international cooperation. In remarks to Harvard graduates, she stressed: "Our way of thinking and our actions have to be multilateral rather than unilateral, outward-looking rather than isolationist. In short, we have to work together, rather than alone.” Merkel concluded, "I want to leave this wish with you. Tear down walls of ignorance and narrow-mindedness, for nothing has to stay as it is."
Dear Germany and the Rest of the World: Trump's isolationism and xenophobia do not reflect the views of the vast majority of the American people. Once he has been peacefully removed from office or defeated at the ballot box, America will once again be a reliable ally in confronting the world's problems. Please do not lose faith in us.
