Republican Racists!
CPAC RACIST: Slavery Wasn’t So Bad (Video)
It only took one day for a CPAC attendee to expose the racist underpinnings of the Tea Party at their annual pow-wow. 30-year-old Scott Terry of North Carolina expressed frustration while attending a panel meeting at Republican attempts to reach out southern minority voters “at the expense of” whites like himself. Terry asked the panelist, “Why can’t we be more like Booker T. Washington?”
K. Carl Smith of Frederick Douglass Republicans responded, “Here’s an example: When Douglass escaped from slavery, I think 10 years or 20 years after he escaped, he writes a letter to his former slave master and said, ‘I forgive you for all the things you did to me.’”
That’s when Terry said, “For giving him shelter and food and all that?”
Seriously.
Think Progress recorded the exchange, and also reported that this Terry also said he’d be “fine” with a society in which blacks were totally subservient to whites, that African-Americans should only be allowed to vote in Africa, and to a female CPAC attendee, “I didn’t know the legacy of the Republican Party included women correcting men in public.”
Terry said he supported Rick Santorum for President. No surprise there.
Here’s the video from Think Progress:
