As the nation's aviation system became bogged down with delays for a second day on Tuesday, Congressional leaders brought bipartisan pressure on the White House for an end-run around sequestration furloughs that have sidelined 1,500 air traffic controllers.
In a sharply-worded letter signed by Sens. John D. Rockefeller IV (D.-W.VA.) and John Thune (R.-S.D.), the chairman and ranking member of the Senate transportation committee, demanded to know how much it would cost to end the controller furloughs and keep open 149 control towers slated to close.
