Doomsday warning: UN Ebola chief raises 'nightmare' prospect that
virus could mutate and become airborne - making it much more
infectious [I wonder if the US also
has a patent on airborne Ebola, since the CDC already owns a patent to 'EboBun' Ebola?] 2 Oct 2014 The longer the Ebola
epidemic continues infecting people unabated, the higher the chances it will
mutate and become airborne, the UN's Ebola response chief has warned. Anthony
Banbury, the Secretary General's Special Representative, has said there is a
'nightmare' prospect the deadly disease will become airborne if it continues
infecting new hosts. His comments come as organisations battling the crisis in
West Africa warned the international community has just four weeks to stop its
spread before it spirals 'completely out of control'.
Dallas Ebola patient's family under 'control order,' forced to submit
blood samples and quarantined
--Family forced to provide blood samples and submit
to testing on demand --Police stationed at apartment complex -
Mayor 2 Oct 2014 Texas health officials have placed the Dallas family
of a Liberian national infected with Ebola under quarantine and ordered them not
to leave their home or have any contact with outsiders for 21 days without
approval of the local or state health department. The "control order" also
requires the family of Thomas Eric Duncan to be available to provide blood
samples and agree to any testing required by public health officials. Officials
said Thursday that the four or five family members could face criminal charges
for violating the order, which was delivered to them in writing Wednesday
evening. Police have been stationed at the apartment complex to ensure
residents' safety, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said at a news briefing Thursday
afternoon.

complex and that the five children have been enrolled in homebound school
program.

cameraman working for NBC News in Liberia has become the fourth American to
contract the deadly Ebola virus. The 33-year-old unnamed journalist is being
flown privately back to the U.S. for treatment, while the network's chief
medical editor and correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman and the rest of her team

Ebola crisis: Liberia 'to prosecute man in US
hospital' 2 Oct 2014 The Liberian
authorities say they will prosecute the man diagnosed with Ebola in the US,
accusing him of lying over his contact with an infected relative. When he left
the country last month, Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan filled in a
questionnaire saying that none of his relatives were sick. But Liberia's
assistant health minister said he had taken a sick relative to a clinic in a
wheelbarrow. Mr Duncan is in a serious condition in a Dallas
hospital.
US Has List of 100 Contacts
of Ebola Patient --Officials order
four relatives to stay at home 3 Oct 2014 Texas health officials have
drawn up a list of about 100 potential or possible contacts of the first ebola

Services said it expects the "tracing number will be lower". Some of the man's
family are being quarantined as he's treated in a Dallas hospital. Dallas health
officials also ordered four close relatives to stay home and see no
visitors.
Health Officials: NYC Ready If Ebola Reaches
City 1 Oct 2014 Local health officials said
Wednesday that if there's ever a confirmed case of Ebola in New York, they're
prepared. As CBS 2 reported, rooms at Bellevue Hospital Center were being
prepped Wednesday to handle patients with the potentially deadly illness, and
information posters have been sent to emergency rooms across New York City. City
Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett said those measures, in addition to several
others, will ensure that the city's health care community knows exactly what to
do if they come across a person who might be infected.
Why does the CDC own a patent on Ebola
'invention?' --From patent
description on EboBun virus, we know that the U.S. government: 1) Extracts Ebola
viruses from patients 2) Claims to have 'invented' that virus 3) Files for
monopoly patent protection on the virus 3 Aug 2014 The U.S. Centers for
Disease Control owns a patent on a particular strain of Ebola known as "EboBun."

collapses --Secret intelligence
material handed to prosecutors demolished case against former Guantánamo Bay
detainee prisoner 1
Oct 2014 The prosecution of the former Guantánamo inmate Moazzam Begg has
dramatically collapsed after the police and crown prosecutors were handed secret
intelligence material that undermined the terrorism case against him. Five days
before Begg was due to go on trial on a string of terrorism charges, which
carried prison terms of up to 15 years, prosecutors announced at the Old Bailey
that they had "recently become aware of relevant material" that obliged them to
offer no evidence. He was released from Belmarsh high-security prison in south
London after the judge entered a formal verdict of not guilty.
Sandy Hook Elementary Students Return Day After Bomb
Threat 2 Oct 2014 Students are returning to
Sandy Hook Elementary School in Monroe, Connecticut, today, a day after the
school was evacuated and children were sent home after a bomb threat was called
in. Supt. Dr. Joseph Erardi said during a public meeting on Wednesday evening
that a secretary took the call shortly after 9:30 a.m. Due to the "uniqueness of
the call," the school was evacuated to the Jockey Hollow building on campus
around 10:45 a.m. and parents were notified through reverse 911 calls, Erardi
said.
Melting Ice Leaves 35,000 Walruses Stranded 2 Oct 2014 A record numbers of Pacific walruses have been forced on
to a beach in Alaska because they cannot find sea ice to rest on due to climate change global warming. An
estimated 35,000 walruses were photographed around five miles (8 kilometres)
north of Point Lay, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration. Experts say the gathering of walruses on shore is a phenomenon
that has accompanied the loss of summer sea ice as the climate has warmed.
Unlike seals, walruses cannot swim indefinitely and must rest.
They use their tusks to pull themselves on to ice or rocks.

Appeals Court Reversal Allows Sweeping Abortion Law, Forcing 13 Texas
Clinics to Close --No abortion
facilities will be open west or south of San Antonio. 2 Oct 2014
Thirteen abortion clinics in Texas were forced to close immediately, after a
federal appellate court sided with Texas in its yearlong legal battle over its
sweeping abortion law and allowed the state to enforce one of the law's toughest
provisions while the case was being appealed. The decision by a three-judge
panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, in New
Orleans, will have an immediate effect on abortion services in Texas, lawyers
for abortion providers said. Thirteen clinics whose facilities do not meet the
new standards were to be closed overnight, leaving Texas -- a state with 5.4
million women of reproductive age, ranking second in the country -- with eight
abortion providers, all in Houston, Austin and two other metropolitan
regions.
