The month-long European Championship starts in Paris on June 10, drawing the best international teams from the continent and hundreds of thousands of fans. "The large number of tourists visiting Europe in the summer months will present greater targets for terrorists," the State Department said. The event is being hosted from 10 June to 10 July at various venues. France is already under a state of emergency following last year's Islamist-claimed attacks in Paris.

White House back to normal after security lockdown | 30 May 2016 | A brief, partial lockdown at the White House was lifted on Monday after a metal object tossed over the fence was tested and determined not to be dangerous, the U.S. Secret Service said. President Barack Obama was at the White House during the incident. An individual threw the object over the north fence of the complex, Secret Service spokesman Shawn Holtzclaw said in an emailed statement. That person was apprehended without incident, he said.

White House on lockdown amid 'chemical attack' fears | 30 May 2016 | A White House official has now confirmed the north side of the building was locked down because of the discovery of a suspect package. It has been claimed the item was thrown over or at the north lawn fence. Bomb disposal experts in hazmat suits conducted an area search. The Secret Service would not allow reporters to leave the White House compound through its western gate and flashing lights from emergency responders could be seen nearby.

The Democratic presidential candidate was uninjured and continued speaking, but not before several agents hugged him and pushed him away from the microphone. The identities of the individuals, who yelled as they approached the stage, were not immediately known. They were apprehended and led away by Secret Service from the podium at the Frank Ogawa Plaza, where the rally was being held.

Glenn Beck suspended by SiriusXM for discussing extra-legal means to 'advocate harm against' Trump | 31 May 2016 | SiriusXM hosts Stephen K. Bannon and David Webb announced on Breitbart News Daily that SiriusXM has suspended Glenn Beck and Webb will temporarily take over Beck's 9AM to noon Eastern time slot on SiriusXM's Patriot Channel 125. The suspension is in response to the interview Beck did with fiction author [sic] Brad Thor last Wednesday, in which Thor likened the GOP's presumptive nominee Donald Trump to a South American-style dictator who wouldcause an "extinction-level event" for the country if elected. Thor then declared that in such a case, Congress would not be able to remove Trump from office by "legal means" through impeachment, so Thor asked "what patriot will step up and do that" if Trump oversteps his Constitutional restraints. Beck agreed with Thor's assessment.

Shocked Facebook users have reported the image, only to be told that the graphic depiction of a current Presidential candidate blowing his brains out with a handgun does not violate the company's community standards [sic].

Obama: Troops died in combat in Iraq | 27 May 2016 | Three U.S. servicemembers who died fighting the Islamic State group in Iraq were killed in combat, President Barack Obama said Friday in an exclusive Q&A with Stars and Stripes. The losses of Navy SEAL Charles Keating IV, Delta Force soldier Master Sgt. Joshua L. Wheeler and Marine Staff Sgt. Louis F. Cardin had previously been called combat deaths by White House and Pentagon officials. Obama's comments Friday appeared to be the first time that the president himself has acknowledged them as combat deaths.

Two U.S. troops injured during ISIS attacks in Iraq, Syria | 31 May 2016 | Two American troops were injured over the weekend in separate attacks by Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, a defense official said, marking the first time the U.S. military has publicly disclosed a casualty among troops deployed to Syria. The injuries occurred during the Memorial Day weekend, when President Obama acknowledged for the first time that U.S. troops there are in "combat." Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said both troops were injured by indirect fire while conducting train-advise-and-assist missions.

Sources close to the inquiry said the report – which will be published in six weeks' time - was not set up to take a view on the legality of the acts of individuals or events. That includes whether the invasion of Iraq in 2003 was legal. The report will not make any judgements on the legality or anything like that because it is not the purpose of the report [!], the source said.

CT Governor Approves $22 Million Package for World's Largest Hedge Fund Amidst State Layoffs --This is why Bernie Sanders wants this corporatist fraud removed from DNC committees | 27 May 2016 | The State Bond Commission approved 22 million in grants and loans Friday for the world's largest hedge fund despite bipartisan complaints that the wealthy company can afford it at a time when state employees are being laid off. The commission voted 7-2 to award the package to Bridgewater Associates, a giant in the financial industry operated by Greenwich billionaire Ray Dalio, one of the nation's wealthiest individuals. State Comptroller Kevin Lembo, a Democrat, and Rep. Christopher Davis, a Republican, voted against the deal, saying it was too lucrative for a wealthy company. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (D) strongly defended the deal in a series of back-and-forth questions and answers with Davis during the commission's meeting at the state Capitol complex.

Bernie Sanders asks to oust Barney Frank, Dannel Malloy from DNC committees | 28 May 2016 | Looking to force a contested convention, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders's campaign called on party leaders Saturday to remove "aggressive attack surrogates" former Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank and Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy from key DNC panels. Contending that Frank and Malloy's criticisms of the Vermont senator have "exposed a deeper professional, political and personal hostility," Sanders campaign counsel Brad Deutsch penned a letter to the Democratic Party's Rules and Bylaws Committee asking to remove them as the convention's respective Standing Rules Committee co-chair and Standing Platform Committee co-chair.

North Korean state media offers support for 'wise politician' Donald Trump | 31 May 2016 | Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, has faced an unusual amount of criticism from foreign leaders -- in large part because of his combative tone and unorthodox policy suggestions. This week, however, he found an unlikely international voice of support -- in North Korean state media [as opposed to 'corporate-owned media,' which is never added as a descriptor in US publications]. State outlet DPRK Today published an editorial on Tuesday that called the business mogul a "wise politician" and said he could be good for North Korea. "There are many positive aspects to Trump's 'inflammatory policies,'" the author of the article wrote, according to a translation from NK News.

Is a new candidate going to enter the presidential race? | 30 May 2016 | Weekly Standard editor [sic] Bill Kristol sent out a provocative tweet Sunday, calling for a "heads up over this holiday weekend" that another presidential candidate -- an independent [aka Koch troll] -- would be entering the race for the White House. Kristol said no more Sunday evening, beyond the tweet, which referred to the yet-to-be-named candidate as "an impressive one, with a strong team and a real chance." Donald Trump unleashed a series of tweets in response, insulting Kristol, and both badgering the GOP and calling on the party to unite against this unnamed new opponent.

Gary Johnson wins Libertarian presidential nomination, Weld chosen for VP | 29 May 2016 | Libertarians on Sunday selected former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson as their party's presidential nominee and ex-Massachusetts Gov. [corporate troll] Bill Weld as the vice presidential nominee, at their party convention in Orlando, Florida. Johnson was the party's nominee in 2012 and once again won the position despite backlash from the party's more radical Libertarian wing. In the first round of voting, Johnson reached 49.5 percent of the vote, according to the official party total, just shy of the majority needed for victory.

Heartbreaking Image Foreshadows the Sun Setting on the Polar Bear Population | 26 May 2016 | Just one of the numerous species facing extinction, the polar bear is increasingly regarded as the poster animal for the damage caused by global climate change. Polar bears are pictured emaciated and marooned on melting sheets of ice and wandering into urban areas, driven by starvation and a thawing habitat. The Arctic is particularly affected, with warming temperatures -- increasing between two and four times faster than the rest of the planet -- leading to sea levels rising and ice caps melting...The polar bear's plight was strikingly captured by photographer Paul Nicklen, who recently immortalized one gigantic individual near Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
