Trump surrogates fanned out over the Sunday talk shows to say it's up to Democrats in Congress whether government stays open after Friday, because Democrats must agree to fund Trump's wall with Mexico.
"I can't imagine the Democrats would shut down the government over an objection to building a down payment on a wall that can end the lawlessness," said Jeff Sessions on ABC's "This Week."
But why is it up to the Democrats to avoid a shutdown? They don't have a majority in either house of Congress. It's up to Republicans whether to fund the wall. And why should taxpayers pay for it anyway? Didn't Trump promise that Mexico would pay?
The whole thing is another manufactured controversy over another manufactured issue, designed to draw attention away from Trump's utter failure to get anything he promised done.

Instead, bury all nuclear waste in the White House yards, in the yards of all in congress who like nuclear power and in the yards of all in the NRC. CLOSE ALL NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS YESTERDAY.
"A Dallas-based company looking to build an interim nuclear waste storage facility for up to 40,000 metric tons of spent fuel now scattered at commercial reactors across the country has asked federal regulators to temporarily halt the process on its application.
Waste Control Services plans to build the facility beside its current low-level radioactive waste storage operation in Andrews County in West Texas, but the company has asked to suspend its application for now because of financial difficulties and its expected late-summer acquisition by Energy Solutions.
The hefty $7.5 million price tag on the federal application process took Waste Control Services by surprise, company President Rod Baltzer conceded in his written request to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Tuesday.
“WCS respects the NRC’s process, understands that the NRC seeks to efficiently use its resources and is fulfilling its mandate to protect the public health and safety and the environment,” Baltzer wrote. “But WCS is also faced with a magnitude of financial burdens that currently make pursuit of licensing unsupportable.”...
“First and foremost, although the nuclear power industry would never admit it, this is yet another clear sign that there is no good solution for the dilemma of its forever deadly high-level radioactive waste,” wrote Kevin Kamps, nuclear waste expert for Beyond Nuclear in Washington, D.C.
“For this reason alone, the four new reactors under construction in Georgia and South Carolina should be terminated, and the 100 dangerously age-degraded atomic reactors located in 30 states across the U.S. should be permanently shut down,” Kamps said."
DON'T NUKE THE CLIMATE Join the nuclear-free, carbon-free contingent in Washington, DC People's Climate March on April 29, 2017. Also there are local marches in any cities, including Boston. CLOSE ALL NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS YESTERDAY. THINK OF THE CHILDREN, MORE THAN SEVEN GENERATIONS OUT AND INTO ETERNITY. NUCLEAR POWER CAUSES LEUKEMIA AND OTHER CANCERS. CHILDREN ARE 10-20X MORE VULNERABLE TO THE CARCINOGENIC AFFECTS OF NUCLEAR POWER THAN ADULTS.
