VoteVets' first 100 days resisting Trump

VoteVets

Today is Trump's 100th day in office, and while everyone grades the president for his time in office, we thought it'd be a good time to review VoteVets' work as part of the resistance effort.

So, let's walk through our first 100 days together. Then we're going to ask you to make a $10 contribution to VoteVets so we can keep it up during the next 100. Because now's not the time to let up.

1. Right out of the gate, we organized against Trump's federal pay freeze. As you know, 31 percent of federal employees are veterans and we helped to elevate their stories as part of that important debate.

2. When Trump dropped his first Muslim ban, we helped to identify veterans who served with interpreters in the six Muslim-majority nations covered. And then we shared their stories. It made a real difference.

3. Who can forget the ad we ran on Morning Joe featuring an Afghanistan veteran speaking directly to Donald Trump. And then we ran it on Saturday Night Live when Alec Baldwin hosted the show.

There's more to come, but first: make a $10 contribution to VoteVets today as a way of saying you are just as committed to fighting back against Trump in his second 100 days, as you were in his first.

4. Shortly after our ad ran, VoteVets filed an Amicus Brief against President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security in the District Court of Eastern New York. It offered our support for two interpreters who were denied entry into the United States after the ill-conceived Muslim ban.

5. We helped get the Trump administration to reverse the closure of child service programs on overseas military bases due to the federal hiring freeze. We were the first to promote the story of a mother whose family is stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany -- the story that got the ball rolling.

6. Then we ran ANOTHER television ad. This one featuring Rear Admiral Michael Smith -- who served as Commander, Destroyer Squadron 23 and as the Sea Combat Commander for the Nimitz Strike Group -- calling for an independent investigation into the relationship between President Trump and the Russian government.

Ok, there's still more... but this is a good moment to pause and ask:

7. We found dozens of veterans who would be impacted by cuts to LIHEAP and Meals on Wheels and featured their stories in a WIDELY shared social media series. It was powerful, and helped shape the national narrative.

8. Then we ran ANOTHER television ad featuring a World War II veteran who actually served in Patton's Army. It received some great coverage, and put another bump in Trump's road on the way to 100 days in office.

9. And now we're just getting started in our campaign to stop efforts to privatize veterans' health care. We've already received THOUSANDS of stories from veterans who would be harmed by the decision to turn VA care into a voucher program.

But like we've said before, we're just getting started. But we can't do it alone.

Make a $10 contribution to VoteVets today as a way of saying you are just as committed to fighting back against Trump in his second 100 days, as you were in his first.

Thank you for standing with VoteVets. Anything we accomplish, anything we do to stop Trump is because we've done it together.

All our best,
- The team at VoteVets
