Baker is incapable of leadership!
The MBTA is bringing back former general manager Dan Grabauskas as a $30,000-a-month commuter rail consultant, a year after he resigned as head of a Honolulu's rapid transit agency, officials said today.
Grabauskas, who was was forced out as the T's GM in 2009 by Gov. Deval Patrick, will be responsible "overall for the management and supervision" of the T's commuter rail system, which is currently operated by the French company Keolis.
Dubbed the "executive director" of the T's commuter rail system, Grabauskas has been hired on an initial one-year basis, deputy general manager Jeff Gonneville wrote in a letter to employees. At his monthly rate, Grabauskas stands to make $360,000 a year, which is more than the base salary of the T's controversial pick for general manager, Luis Ramirez, who starts Sept. 12.
Gonneville said the move is intended to "strengthen our team," and Grabauskas will be tasked, among others things, with identifying "significant contractual gaps between the terms of the Keolis contract and adherence to those obligations."
“I am very excited about this opportunity to serve the people of Massachusetts again, and I look forward to supporting the dynamic new leadership team that’s been assembled," Grabauskas said in a statement. "Working closely with Keolis and T staff, we will seek to achieve important service goals, including, better system reliability, enhanced safety and comfort, and improved customer service.”
Grabauskas resigned last August from his $299,000-a-year post as the chief executive of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation amid what local media described as escalating costs for its rail project there.

Dan Graubaskas was a solid government employee under Governor Romney, but it is very disturbing that the Baker administration, after selecting a new MBTA GM with no experience in public transit, then hires Grabauskas to assist the new GM, as a "consultant" at $360,000 a year - who just recently resigned from his transportation job in Hawaii.
