Strip --Israeli
airstrikes killed four Palestinian children, three in Zeitoun and one in Khan
Yunis. 17 Jul 2014 Israel resumed airstrikes on the Gaza Strip at 3:00

President Putin flew similar route as downed MH17 -
reports --'At a quite
remote distance, they are almost identical.' --Presidential airport says 'hasn't
overflown Ukraine for long time' 17 Jul 2014 Malaysian Airlines MH17
plane was travelling almost the same route as Russia's President Vladimir
Putin's jet shortly before the crash that killed 295, Interfax news agency
reports citing sources. "I can say that Putin's plane and the Malaysian Boeing
intersected at the same point and the same echelon. That was close to Warsaw on
330-m echelon at the height of 10,100 meters. The presidential jet was there at
16:21 Moscow time and the Malaysian aircraft - 15:44 Moscow time," a source told
the news agency on condition of anonymity. "The contours of the aircrafts are
similar, linear dimensions are also very similar, as for the coloring, at a
quite remote distance they are almost identical", the source
added.

Julian Assange
--Assange defnce team to appeal 16 Jul 2014 A Swedish court on
Wednesday upheld its detention order on Julian Assange, reaffirming the legal
basis for an international warrant for the WikiLeaks founder which has kept him
hiding in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London for two years. Assange's defence team
said it would appeal. Defence lawyer Per Samuelson said they would study the
judge's decision in detail and then "write a juicy, toxic appeal" to a higher
court.
Edward Snowden should not face trial, says UN human rights
commissioner 16 Jul 2014 The United
Nations' top human rights official has suggested that the United States should
abandon its efforts to prosecute Edward Snowden, saying his revelations of
massive state surveillance had been in the public interest. The UN high
commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay, credited Snowden, a former US
National Security Agency contractor, with starting a global debate that has led
to calls for the curtailing of state powers to snoop on citizens online and
store their data. "Those who disclose human rights violations should be
protected: we need them," Pillay told a news conference.

up to 10 years in jail 17 Jul 2014
Australia's attorney general has proposed a new bill which would see potential
whistleblowers facing up to 10 years in prison for leaks on special intelligence
operations. Publishing Snowden-like revelations could cost dear in Australia
after attorney general George Brandis presented to the parliamentary joint
committee on intelligence and security a new bill expanding powers of the Australian Security Intelligence
Organization (ASIO).
Journalists will face jail over spy leaks under new security
laws 16 Jul 2014 Australian
journalists could face prosecution and jail for reporting Snowden-style
revelations about certain spy operations, in an "outrageous" expansion of the
government's national security powers, leading criminal lawyers have warned. A
bill presented to parliament on Wednesday by the attorney general, George
Brandis, would expand the powers of the Australian Security Intelligence
Organisation (Asio), including creation of a new offence punishable by five
years in jail for "any person" who disclosed information relating to "special
intelligence operations". The person would be liable for a 10-year term if the
disclosure would "endanger the health or safety of any person or prejudice the
effective conduct of a special intelligence operation".
