Major VICTORY! After a year of protesting by workers across the nation, Staplesannounced they will abandon plans to offer mail services which many critics blasted as back door attempt to privatize the Post Office, which is the 2nd largest civilian employer in the country.
UPDATED: The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) President Mark Dimondstein says the agreement is a ruse: "Staples and the USPS are changing the name of the program, without addressing the fundamental concerns of postal workers and postal customers. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck."

The urgent need to extend unemployment benefits continues. Millions of Americans through no fault of their own are struggling in an economy where there are three job seekers for every job available. The unemployed includes veterans, families with children, adults who are taking care of elderly and disabled family members, republicans and democrats.
For fifty years Democrat and Republican presidents and congresses have consistently extended unemployment insurance during times when the economy was this bad. We must act now. The Senate passed Unemployment Extension. The House of Representatives should now bring this measure to a vote.
