Ex-selectman pleads not guilty to election fraud

INGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A former East Longmeadow selectman has pleaded not guilty charges accusing him of trying to rig absentee ballots during his unsuccessful Republican Primary campaign for the Legislature.

 

The Springfield Republican reports (http://bit.ly/QXEyWt) a Hampden Superior Court judge set $10,000 cash bail for Enrico ‘‘Jack’’ Villamaino at his arraignment Wednesday on a 12-count indictment.

District Attorney Mark Mastroianni said Villamaino and co-defendant Courtney Llewellyn took absentee ballot applications from the East Longmeadow clerk’s office and cast some of them after altering the voter registrations of some Democrats to independent.

Villamaino was arrested Tuesday night. Llewellyn, his wife, surrendered earlier Tuesday and was released on $50,000 surety bail after pleading not guilty to 12 voter fraud-related counts.

State election officials supervised the clerk’s office before the Sept.6 primary to ensure the voter registrations and absentee ballot requests were valid.
