Protests Planned Across USA As Vote On FCC’s ‘Catastrophic’ Plan To Kill Net Neutrality Looms

Dear Friend,

The United States Supreme Court handed Donald Trump a major political victory yesterday by ordering the administration’s immigration and travel ban to take effect immediately. The orders reverse lower court decisions halting implementation of the revised ban, which bars citizens of Somalia, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Syria, North Korea and many Venezuelans from traveling to the US. The ban will now stay in effect pending litigation at the Fourth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Activists are stepping up their action for net neutrality ahead of the FCC's crucial vote. More than 760,000 calls have flooded congressional phone lines since November 21, according to Battle for the Net. Furthermore, protests have have been planned throughout the nation over the coming days in opposition to the FCC’s “scorched-earth” attack on net neutrality: More than 600 demonstrations are scheduled to take place at Verizon stores and congressional offices across the country on Thursday, exactly one week ahead of the FCC’s planned vote.

Also more stories from around the world.

Cambodia Keeps Perverting Its Own History For Cash
by Andre Vltchek

In all the bookstores around the country, the official Western propaganda narrative (‘Khmer Rouge killed them all’ – style) is on display and on sale: Pol Pot’s biographies, gruesome accounts from the so-called Killing Fields, from the torture chambers at the former high school ‘S-21’ in Phnom Penh, as well as countless and detailed testimonies of the victims.

Hopes And Nightmares Over Crypto Currencies
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

The crystal ball gazers, astrologers and tea leave readers have been suffering a lingering fever of late.  Bitcoin recently romped through the $10,000 barrier, an event that sent speculators swooning and conservative voices into a gloomy mood of pessimism.  Bitt founder and director Gabriel Abed was rushing to declare the imminent funeral oration for cash, a newly founded digital frontier that would envelop all before it.  “All currencies will be digitized.  Cash has seen its days.”

Netanyahu Ditches US Jews For Alliance With Christian Evangelicals And The Alt-right
by Jonathan Cook

Reports at the weekend suggested that Donald Trump is about to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, throwing a wrench in any peace plan. If true, the US president will have decisively prioritised support for Israel – and pro-Israel lobbies at home – over justified outrage from Palestinians and the Arab world. But paradoxically, just as American Jews look close to winning the battle domestically on behalf of Israel, many feel more alienated from a Jewish state than ever before.

America’s Electoral Choices: Liberal Fascism, versus Conservative Fascism
by Eric Zuesse

In U.S. elections between the two political Parties for federal offices — Congress, and the Presidency — the choice that’s offered to the voters is almost invariably between two fascists; so, the meaning of “fascism” is first crucial to understand, in order to understand today’s America, and that it’s fascist

Defining Ambedkar: Icon or Ideal?
by B Prabakaran

By rough estimate, on April 14th and December 6th, two hundred to three hundred ‘poster organizations’ would gather every year at the memorial place of Ambedkar in Chennai, but not with the struggle for rights. A growing number of ‘Ambedkar procession’ on a pushcart with floral decoration could be seen in Tamilnadu and other places. The places related to Ambedkar’s life happen to be pilgrimage centers for Dalits, who adores him. They become devotees merely for his material image and they talk time and again with elation of his irresistible struggle. They adopted him personally not collectively. By doing so, they completely overlook the scholar and rebellious part of Ambedkar and this could jeopardize for his radicalism and ideals.

by Anandi Sharan

Indian consumers are sending Rs 6 per kWh to European rentiers like British, Canadian and other pensioners and such like non-workers, just because the Government of India is too lazy to print its own money.
