forum in Brewster







HYANNIS — U.S. Rep. William Keating, D-Mass., will hold a town hall meeting in Brewster next week.
The meeting will be moderated by state Rep. Sarah Peake, D-Provincetown, and will be hosted by Cape Cod Women for Change, Indivisible Outer Cape, Lower Cape Indivisible and the Social Justice Committee of First Parish Brewster Unitarian Universalist Church.
Topics expected to be addressed by Keating include federal policies affecting immigration, environment and climate change, health care, tariffs and the economy, women and LGBTQ communities, foreign affairs and threats to the U.S. government.
The free public event is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at the First Parish Brewster sanctuary hall at 1969 Main St. (Route 6A).

Peter Tedeschi, a Republican seeking to unseat Keating in the 9th Congressional District, has been endorsed by Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings and Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald Jr.

Absentee ballots are available for those who cannot make it to the polls in the primary election, which is just two weeks from today.
The ballots are available at town halls throughout the Cape and Islands as well as on the secretary of state’s website at www.sec.state.ma.us/ele.

Applications for absentee ballots must be received by local election officials by 5 p.m. Aug. 31. All ballots must be returned to local election offices by 8 p.m. Sept. 4.

The Massachusetts Nurses Association has endorsed the re-election campaign of state Rep. Timothy Whelan, R-Brewster.
The association represents more than 23,000 members statewide.

The two Democrats hoping to challenge Whelan in the 1st Barnstable District in the November general election will debate Saturday.
Steven Leibowitz and Joshua Mason will square off from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Cape Community Media Center at 17 Shad Hole Road in Dennis Port.
The debate is sponsored by the Democratic town committees of Barnstable, Brewster, Dennis and Yarmouth, and the Cape and Islands Democratic Council. Questions may be submitted in advance to bobsam266@gmail.com.

Barnstable Town Councilor John Flores, a Republican candidate for state Senate in the Cape & Islands District, will host an open house for campaign volunteers Thursday.
The event will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Flores’ newly opened campaign office at 23 White’s Path in South Yarmouth.
