When will Trump voters realize they’ve been had?

President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to ‘drain the swamp’ on Wall Street and in Washington is all wet, writes Brett Arends.

These people will support whomever caters to and coddles their prejudices. Period. I know conservatives hate it when liberals attack them as stupid, but they should really be grateful we don't focus on the REAL problem that transcends even their stupefying gullibility and lack of any honest or genuine critical thinking--their sheer, unadulterated meanness. These are people who get off on hierarchy and the idea that for some to thrive, others must suffer. They take comfort in inequity and derive a sense of security in their own identity by fomenting prejudice in the name of "tradition" and applauding anytime a boot is put to the throats of any person they deem as somehow lesser or simply not "like" them. And the worst part is that the hatred is really just incidental, a natural side effect of the reality of their privileged and self-righteous worldview, which is driven by a selfish, myopic imperative that is as old and ugly as anything in human history, the gist of which is this: as long as THEY have theirs, fuck everyone else.
