LETTER: Sheriff Hodgson, please hang up your badge

BREAKING: Bristol County sheriff claims: “People dying almost every day at hands of illegals” without providing a shred of evidence.

According to Michael Bonner of New Bedford’s Standard Times: “Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson traveled to the nation’s capital Wednesday to voice support for the program that allows local law enforcement to partner with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Hodgson joined a panel that supported the 287g program, which through a partnership with ICE allows law enforcement authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions.
According to the article, Hodgson said “The amount of crimes that are happening, people are dying almost every day at the hands of illegals.”
The Bristol County Sheriff didn’t provide any evidence linking Bristol County to that statement, though. He spoke of three deaths associated with illegal immigrants during a two-year span in Milford, which is in Worcester County.
Why did he have to reach across Massachusetts in an effort to support his fabricated statement? Three deaths over a two-year period? Really? That’s the best evidence you can come up with?
Click on these links to the articles in the Providence Journal and the Standard Times.
If we don’t scream out whenever we hear a blatant lie then it becomes a truth. On behalf of the voiceless undocumented immigrants living in the shadows of our society, we encourage you to email a “Letter to the Editor” to both ProJo and the Standard Times demanding that Sheriff Hodgson be held accountable for his blatantly false claim.ds of illegals” without providing a shred of evidence.

LETTER: Sheriff Hodgson, please hang up your badge

Posted Jan 4, 2019

Each week the Standard-Times and other newspapers publish opinion pieces or news articles spotlighting the deficiencies and seemingly inhumane policies of Sheriff Hodgson in his management of the Bristol County correctional facilities.
The recent passage of the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Reform Act, in conjunction with existing statutory law, as it pertains to sheriffs, and once fully implemented with state-wide standards, can enable various boards and oversight committees to investigate and publicize the violations and non-conforming practices in the Bristol County facilities.
The previously reported lack of, or de minimis rehabilitative, medical, educational, nutritional, and training programs, as well as the exorbitant and penalizing cost to inmates and their families for canteen food and phone calls shall continue to be documented and made public by former inmates.
Additionally, the sheriff’s astronomical legal fees to defend himself since assuming office, and his frequent absences to attend questionable and non-essential events at taxpayer expense have been the subject of requests for auditing and investigation by various citizen committees and individuals. Perhaps it is time for Sheriff Hodgson to submit his resignation and make way for the appointment or election of a more enlightened, compassionate and effective sheriff.
