Meet Matthew Eyles. He runs America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) — the group that fights to keep for-profit insurers profitable by lobbying Washington lawmakers.
Matt’s career is indicative of how incestuous the health care industry is. AHIP regularly says drug companies charge too much for prescription drugs. But Matt, AHIP’s leader, used to work for Pfizer, the pharmaceutical manufacturer that raised prices on 41 of its drugs in January.
Matt and his peers in Washington sometimes argue publicly, but they all have long histories working together to make tens of billions of dollars in annual profit for drug and health insurance companies.
Know Matt Eyles and know AHIP. They’re key to preventing the passage of laws that would check health insurer profits and lower drug prices.
