"Survival of the fittest" doesn't mean survival of the most fast or most strong. It means survival of those that are the best fit for the environment. And a long, long time ago humans became adapted to fit our environment very well because we cooperate and work together. Our cooperation and interdependency is what makes us fit. But it doesn't work unless everyone's on the same page.
