Moscow Mitch is fast-tracking the judicial confirmation of a white nationalist and we need your help to stop him.

REPUBLICANS QUICKLY CONFIRMED STEVEN MENASHI.

Mitch McConnell says that his lasting legacy will be molding the judicial branch. That means confirming as many conservative judges as possible, no matter their experience or lack thereof.

Trump's latest nominee, Steven Menashi, might be his most extreme yet—and that's saying something. He is a white nationalist's dream candidate, and could spend decades handing down his brand of hate as the law of the land. We can't let that happen.

Trump and McConnell have already confirmed a record number of federal judges and they continue to do so. They won't stop until they've packed the courts with conservative extremists that will overturn decades of progress when it comes to civil rights. Can you give $5 so we can stop McConnell from packing the courts?

Thank you,
Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos

P.S. My colleague Amanda wrote you yesterday with more information on Menashi's frightening record. Please take a minute to check it out before:

The United States Supreme Court gets all the attention for their landmark decisions, but the United States Federal Courts of Appeals are just as important when it comes to interpreting our laws and legally defining our policies.

Trump and Mitch McConnell's latest nominee to the Federal Appeals court is Steven Menashi, who has been an aide to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and a lawyer in the Trump White House. That’s bad enough, but it gets worse.

Menashi's policy ideas are frightening. While in college his writings denounced LGBTQ rights and mocked anti-rape activists. He pushed pushed xenophobic conspiracy theories and attacked need-based financial assistance because it "punished families that had the foresight and prudence to save for their children's education.” Most frightening is his belief in ethnonationalism -- or that a democracy can't work unless the country is defined by one race or ethnicity.

Only two days after Trump nominated him, Menashi received his confirmation hearing. This is an extremely rushed confirmation process and there are two reasons why McConnell wants to rush it: first, less time to research Menashi's past and second, Senate Republicans don't want the progressive groups like Daily Kos to mount a campaign to stop his confirmation, because we can actually win.

We plan on doing just that. If Trump and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell have their way, they will continue to pack the courts with conservative extremists like Steven Menashi. Can you give $5 to prevent this white nationalist from sitting on a federal court?

Stopping Trump's nominees like Menashi might seem hopeless, but I assure you it most definitely is not. Trump may be nominating judges at a record pace, but the Trump administration also has an unusually high amount of nominees that have either been rejected by the Senate or voluntarily withdrawn their nomination. In fact, a whopping 69 Trump nominees have been withdrawn or voted down, including 13 nominees for federal judgeships.

The reason why so many Trump nominees go down to defeat makes sense: Trump is careless, unprepared, and does things on a whim. Oftentimes he will nominate people just because he knows them, or because he liked how they looked on television. Frequently, this results in deeply unqualified nominees who even some Senate Republicans can’t stomach voting for, so a few of them join with Senate Democrats to defeat the nomination.

Trump’s unpreparedness gives us a chance to win these fights. It’s how we have worked with allies to defeat nominee for Federal Reserve pick Stephen Moore and for Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe -- both of whom withdrew before their confirmation votes. It’s how we are going to defeat Menashi, and other Trump nominees, too.

At Daily Kos, we are really good at doing this. In just the first nine months of 2019, we have worked with over two hundred different organizations to fight Trump administration policies and nominations. We have driven over 100,000 phone calls to Congress, and sent them an eye-popping 3,545,916 letters. We can create big pressure, even on less visible fights like federal judgeships. We are about to start gearing up to fight Menashi, but as a grassroots driven and funded organization, we need your help.

It's important that we do everything can to stop Trump and McConnell's latest nominee, Steven Menashi. Help us prevent him from ever getting a lifetime appointment to a federal court -- please support our work by giving $5.

Keep Fighting,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
