"PROPONENTS OF THE DAKOTA Access Pipeline, which will connect fracked crude oil from the Bakken fields in North Dakota to markets across the country — claim the controversial project will enhance energy independence. But at least a portion of the oil may well end up as exports to foreign markets, either as crude or as a refined product.

Energy Transfer Partners, the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline, has built public support and pressured regulators to approve the project by asserting that the oil will enhance energy independence, because it will be used exclusively by U.S. consumers.

The company claimed in a presentation in Iowa, a state that granted approval for the project this year, that the pipeline will feature “100% Domestic produced crude” that “supports 100% domestic consumption.”

The domestic energy claim, which has been touted by company brochures and a pro-pipeline website, has also been used to criticize hundreds of demonstrators in North Dakota who say the Dakota Access endangers drinking water and threatens sites that are sacred to a number of Native American nations and tribes."

White Officer Pepper-Sprays Crowd at Black Lives Matter Summit in Cleveland

By Afi Scruggs, Guardian UK
27 July 15

An encounter with an ‘intoxicated’ 14-year-old outside the conference to discuss police brutality ends with a transit officer spraying the crowd

transit police officer has pepper-sprayed a crowd in Cleveland protesting the arrest of a 14-year-old at a Black Lives Matter conference inspired by police brutality.

The incident occurred near Cleveland State University in the city’s downtown where the first Black Lives Matter conference was taking place. More than 1,200 participants spent the weekend organizing and discussing a range of social justice issues.
According to the Greater Cleveland regional transit authority, its officers were taking an intoxicated teenage bus rider to a police station just as the conference was ending about 5pm. A large crowd blocked the squad car and tried to get the youngster out. One of the officers turned and began pepper-spraying the crowd.
Other law enforcement agencies responded, including Cleveland police department. The youngster was taken examined in an emergency medical service unit, and released to his mother about 6pm.
No arrests were made. The transit authority did not release the officer’s name. The agency’s officers are not affiliated with the city’s police department.
A video of the incident quickly went viral, and lit a community that is tense from three police-related deaths.
For months, Cleveland mayor Frank Jackson and its top law enforcement officers, as well as Cuyahoga county prosecutor Timothy McGinty, have been pressured by activists unhappy with the handling of the cases of Tamir Rice, Tanisha Anderson and Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.
Rice, a 12-year-old, was fatally shot in November when Cleveland patrolman Timothy Loehmann mistook his toy gun for the real thing. Neither Loehmann nor his partner, Frank Garmback, have been charged.
Anderson died that same month after police restrained her during a mental health episode. And Russell and Williams were killed in November 2012 after a high-speed chase when dozens of police officers mistook a car backfiring for a gunshot. The lone officer charged, Michael Brelo, was acquitted of manslaughter.
Local activism in response to those cases – as well as the Department of Justice investigation into the police department’s use of force – convinced organizers to hold the conference in the city.
“Cleveland looks just like Ferguson, looks just like Baltimore, looks just like all of these places that have high oppression,” local organizer Malaya Davis told the Northeast Ohio Media Group referring to the cities which have seen unrest in the wake of black men at the hands of police. “We wanted to highlight that and bring some attention to what’s going on in this city and the state of Ohio as well.”

No one arrested for burning black churches, but peaceful protesters arrested?

Why is no one questioning the racial overtones of Homeland Security?

The government has arrested hundreds of ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬ activists for peacefully protesting but they haven't arrested one white supremacist for burning churches and mass shootings.

The Department of Homeland Security has used social media to closely track activists.

One day after Sandra Bland’s death, 18-year-old Kindra Chapman was found dead in jail

There's something WRONG!

One day after Sandra Bland’s death, 18-year-old Kindra Chapman was found dead in jail

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/07/one-day-after-sandra-blands-death-18-year-old-kindra-chapman-was-found-dead-in-jail/

Just one day after Sandra Bland was found dead in her jail cell in Texas, another young black woman, Kindra Chapman, was found in eerily similar circumstances in a jail cell in Alabama.
The 18-year-old was arrested July 14 on accusations she stole a cell phone, according to AL.com. She was booked just before 6:30 p.m. and found unresponsive in her cell at 7:50 p.m. Like Bland, authorities have blamed Chapman’s death on suicide by hanging. Like Bland, Chapman’s family said the teen had a full and happy life and do not believe she committed suicide. Like Bland, Black Lives Matter activists have joined her family in demanding answers.
In an email to AL.com, Chapman’s mother, Kathy Brady, said she believes police killed her daughter, and that she wasn’t notified of Chapman’s death until 9 p.m.
Other family members who spoke with reporters said Chapman wouldn’t have killed herself.
“I want answers, like where was she for 45 minutes,” her cousin Otis Chapman asked local station WBRC. “There’s surveillance all around… She would not harm herself at all… In my heart, she wouldn’t do nothing like that.”
Chapman wore a bed sheet around his neck because authorities said his cousin was found hanged by a bed sheet. He was protesting at the jail because he didn’t want Chapman’s death to get “swept under the rug.” A “Black Lives Matter” banner could be seen behind him.
“She had family that loved her. She had unconditional love from all around,” her aunt Leslie Chapman told the station. “She would never do nothing like that, she was happy.”
Six Black Lives Matter protesters were arrested Tuesday for stopping nearby highway traffic to protest Chapman’s death,AL.com reports.
Jefferson County D.A. Brandon Falls told AL.com he has preliminary evidence to deliver to Chapman’s family, but he hasn’t been able to get in touch with them.
“I do not feel that it would be appropriate to release any information until I have spoken with the family about the investigation,” he said in a Tuesday statement. “Attempts have been made to contact the family and the attorneys, and I am awaiting a response from them.”
Falls said his office has reports of the offense that led to Chapman’s arrest and reports from the officers on duty at the time of her death, along with the reports of the investigating detective, according to AL.com. They also have video surveillance tapes from several cameras at Homewood City Jail, where Chapman was jailed, and a witness statement from a person in custody at the same time she was.
Chapman’s death is being compared to that of 28-year-old Bland, who was found dead in her jail cell in Waller County, Texas on Monday. Bland was stopped by a Texas state trooper Sunday afternoon for changing lanes without signalling.
Bland’s family has also said they believe the young woman, who was moving from a Chicago suburb to Texas for a new job, had too much to live for and was killed. Authorities said Bland committed suicide by hanging herself with a plastic bag.
The FBI and Texas Rangers have launched their own investigations into Bland’s death and her family has had an independent autopsy performed, the results of which have not yet been released. Details emerging about events leading up to her death seem to show impropriety by law enforcement, including excessive force and what many believe to bedoctoring of police car dashcam footage.
Watch a report below from local WBRC:

Just one day after Sandra Bland was found dead in her jail cell in Texas, another young black woman, Kindra Chapman, was found in eerily similar circumstances.

Marlene Pinnock beaten by CHP

This is from last year, I believe
‪#‎BlackLifeMatters‬
A woman seen on cellphone video being repeatedly punched by a CHP officer on the side of a Los Angeles freeway has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit over the beating.
Marlene Pinnock, a 51-year-old homeless woman, was detained July 1st on the side of the 10 Freeway near La Brea Avenue in a violent arrest caught on cellphone camera by a passing motorist.
In the video, the officer can be seen grabbing Pinnock from behind, throwing her to the ground, straddling her and then repeatedly punching her in the face and upper body.
Pinnock alleges in the lawsuit that she “feared for her life and that the viciousness in which she was beaten could have resulted in her death.”
Pinnock’s daughter said dealing with the incident has been overwhelming.
“I just need and want justice for my mom. This shouldn’t have happened to her,” Maisha Allums said. “I don’t want it to happen to anyone else.”
