The MORAL Bankruptcy of the GOP - Truly Pathetic!

More than any other single action, this defines the MORAL BANKRUPTCY of the Republican Party!
Not a democrat...not one...voted for this. Neither will the Senate. Faux-christian republicans with their pockets full of cash find a way to do the most un-christian thing Blue can think of while adding pork to the bill for their rich cronies.

from The Everlasting GOP Stoppers

The floor of the U.S. House of Representatives erupted in heated debate Thursday after Republican lawmakers presented a measure to separate funding for food stamps, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), from the farm bill currently being debated.

You can't make this stuff up. ‪#‎HadEnoughYet‬ (lm)

"“Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to revise and extend my remarks in strong opposition to the farm bill rule and the underlying bill because it will increase hunger in America,” Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) said.

Although requests to “revise and extend” remarks are routine, Gohmert immediate shouted, “Objection!”
...
Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-IL) next asked permission to “revise and extend” his remarks in opposition to the farm bill “because it takes food nutrition away from working families.”

“Objection!” Gohmert yelled.

“What he is doing is he is not even giving members on our side the courtesy inserting their statement in the record?” Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) asked.

As several more Democratic representatives attempted to insert remarks that the bill “hurts the working poor” and “increases hunger and poverty,” Gohmert repeatedly objected."

How to Protest Keystone XL Without Getting Arrested

July 10, 2013

Barbara Haws is a Brooklynite, but she was raised in Nebraska. The proposed TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline would pass through her home state, and she’s not happy about it. Her cousins — Nebraska farmers — are so unhappy about it that they chained themselves to the White House fence in protest and were promptly arrested. Haws herself chose a simpler form of protest:

A friend is now borrowing the sign and carrying it around the city. He’s also making a video of his experience to post on YouTube. Perhaps it will become a meme.

Republican Health Care Lies

While the article below is about Republican attempts to sabotage IMMIGRATION REFORM, a footnote at the bottom indicates the continued REPUBLICAN LIES ABOUT HEALTH CARE.

The U.S. is the ONLY industrialized nation lacking universal health care coverage.

Americans are being bankrupt because they lack health insurance and they are dying.
Why would anyone oppose providing health care except for Republicans?

At what point do we stop accepting and believing Republican Lies?
Why are Republicans opposing the protection of Americans?
American health care ranks with Third World Countries in certain areas - nothing to be proud of!

Senate Makes Major Move on Immigration Reform

Immigration reform including a pathway to earned citizenship moved one step closer to reality today as the Senate voted overwhelmingly, 84-15, to began debating and amending the bipartisan bill that passed the Judiciary Committee last month. Unsurprisingly, all of today’s no votes came from Republicans, including those leading the opposition to the bill: Sens. Jeff Sessions (AL), Mike Lee (UT), and Ted Cruz (TX).

While many of those who voted to take up the bill today are expected to oppose it in the end, today’s vote is the latest sign of strong momentum. By contrast, the vote to take up the 2007 immigration reform effort, which ultimately failed, was a much narrower 64-35.

Good news also came from the other side of the Capitol today, with Speaker Boehner (R-OH) predicting that the bill will become law before the end of the year. In another positive sign, Boehner also refused to rule out passing a bill through the House with mostly Democratic votes.

Finally, the president also held an event today with DREAMers and a bipartisan group of others who support reform with a pathway to earned citizenship.

The only unfortunate news on the immigration front today came from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who appears to want to have it both ways once again. Rubio was reportedly asking his Republican colleagues to refrain from coming out in support of the bill so he could use the appearance of a lack support among Republicans as an excuse to drag the bill to the right. Discouraging fellow senators from supporting one’s own legislation is a relatively unheard of move.

A new poll out today shows that 81 percent of Latinos polled reject the notion of the “border-security first” approach that Rubio is inching toward. That includes 76 percent of Latinos who have voted for a GOP candidate in the past. Instead, Latinos want to see the pathway to citizenship and border security implemented concurrently, just as it is in the Gang of 8 bill Rubio himself helped author.

BOTTOM LINE: We are closer than we’ve been in a generation toward achieving real reform to our broken immigration system. Reforming our broken system will allow 11 MILLION undocumented immigrants to come out of the shadows, something that will boost our economy by a cumulative $832 BILLION over the next ten years.

Republicans Denying Health Care to Americans

Some of U.S. Health Statistics rank with Third World Countries.

How can Republicans continue to oppose providing care for Americans?

As Americans, we simply cannot afford to continue to support this Party!

This from Alliance for Retired Americans --

States That Reject Medicaid Expansion Will Spend Billions More To Cover FewerAccording to a new study in the journal Health Affairs, states would save money by accepting the Medicaid expansion in President Obama's health care law. The study finds that fourteen of the states that have rejected the expansion will spend a combined $1 billion more on uncompensated care, and give up $8.4 billion in payments from the federal government. In addition, 3.6 million Americans who would have received coverage in the expansion will remain uninsured. Opposition to accepting the funds comes from ultra-conservative governors and state legislators. More in The Hill at http://tinyurl.com/lguy98b.

The Medicaid expansion has become an extremely divisive issue among Republicans. Several Republican governors, including Jan Brewer (AZ) and John Kasich (OH) who are attempting to expand Medicaid, are being opposed by state legislatures controlled by their own party. At this time, twenty-three states have decided to expand Medicaid, nineteen have decided to reject the expansion, and eight are still debating the issue. The Washington Post details the intra-party feud at http://tinyurl.com/lgjtlqs.

“Expanding Medicaid will provide vital health insurance for millions of Americans, including many retirees,” said Edward F. Coyle, Executive Director of the Alliance. “Regardless of party affiliation, lawmakers should not play games with their citizens’ health.”

Sabotage afoot in Capitol

Maybe Florida is not your state, yet the legislative actions described below define what we can expect from short-sighted extremists more interested in lining their pockets than representing their constituents or taking rational action to provide much needed health care.

Will the sheep stop voting against their best interests and putting these people in office?

Sabotage afoot in Capitol

BY BILL NELSON
Special to The Tampa Tribune

Once again, extremists in the Florida Legislature quietly are trying to sabotage the new federal health care law. Sadly, moves like this are becoming the norm in our state’s Capitol. Manipulating laws and rejecting much-needed federal funding is becoming the name of the game in Tallahassee.

Most recently, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 1842, which is now sitting on the governor’s desk and awaiting his signature.

This legislation will remove the authority of Florida’s insurance regulator to approve, modify or reject rate hikes by health insurance companies for the next two years — effectively deregulating health insurers and allowing them to raise prices and gouge consumers at will. And, it conveniently allows officials and insurance companies to blame any rate hikes on the Affordable Care Act.

To eliminate the Florida insurance commissioner’s authority to turn down rate increases is unbelievable and unconscionable. Florida had some of the strongest protections in the country, and to take them away like this makes absolutely no sense.

That’s why, last week, I wrote a letter to the governor urging him to veto this bill. But given the governor’s recent decision to return $1 million in federal funding that would have helped the state cover the cost of overseeing insurance rates under the new health care law, and the fact that he has not even applied for another $5 million in federal funding that is available to help states control their insurance markets, I’m not holding my breath.

An equally unsettling move came earlier this month when the state refused to expand Medicaid to some 1.2 million poor and disabled Floridians who would have received health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Unless the governor calls lawmakers back for a special session to remedy this callous decision, Florida will lose out on about $51 billion in federal funding it would have otherwise received.

Instead, Floridians’ tax dollars will continue flowing to other states to pay for expanded Medicaid programs elsewhere — with no benefit to the residents of our state.

And as a result, we will continue to pay more taxes and higher insurance premiums to cover the expensive, uncompensated emergency care for those who cannot afford insurance coverage.

Clearly, it’s time elected officials in Florida started looking out for the people they are supposed to be representing.
