New Hanover County, North Carolina: Two pet dogs have been attacked with a huge knife by a jilted woman. An English bull dog named Daisy was left with serious injuries while the other pet, a pit bull, is no longer alive.

The culprit, 35-year-old Lorraine Marie Villanueva, was booked and charged for her actions. The entire story begun when deputies took Villanueva’s boyfriend into custody amid a domestic dispute. The attacker soon posted bail and police officers escorted the man to his house to collect his stuff. Later on, officers were called to intervene at the same home after 911 calls indicated that Villanueva wanted to dispatch her boyfriend’s sdog.

‘There was blood everywhere and as the officer arrived, he discovered the dog with Villanueva. The pet had a big cut near his neck’ the police report indicates. The bull dog was rushed to the hospital, where she is still recovering.

After Villanueva was escorted to the police station, deputies were called yet again to the residence situated at 1505 Welch Way after her roommate discovered a lifeless pit bull that seemed to have been attacked with a knife. The dog had been wrapped in a blanket and tossed in a ditch nearby.

Villanueva is currently at the New Hanover Couny Detention Center. Her bail has been set at $100, 000.
In my book, only a complete lunatic is capable of doing such things. For the sake of the entire community, please support this petition and share it as far as possible. Marie Villanueva is a deeply troubled person that needs to be locked up behind bars for as much time as possible. She also definitely needs a psychiatric and should never be allowed to get close to animals ever again. The city – residents and pets likewise – is not safe unless Villanueva is handed the maximum penalty available by law.

Katie Brown of South Daytona FL, Kimberly Ann Howell of Salisbury NC, William Leonard Dodson, North Charleston SC should be 'famous'

A NATIONAL REGISTRY OF ANIMAL ABUSERS MAKES SENSE!

'This is what happens when you don't shut up!': Florida woman posts photo of her dog with mouth duct-taped shut, sparking Internet outrage and a police investigation

  • Katie Brown of South Daytona, Florida, taped her dog's mouth shut when the pooch barked too much

  • She posted the photo to Facebook and received numerous complaints

  • The photo was shared more than 45,000 times in less than 24 hours

  • Local police say they have been inundated with calls from as far away as Australia and are investigating the matter

A woman is drawing the wrath of Facebook for duct taping her dog's mouth shut and proudly displaying the photo.

Katie Brown of South Daytona, Florida, posted a photo of her chocolate Labrador with silver duct tape taped all around her muzzle on Friday, with the caption 'This is what happens when you dont (sic) shut up!!!'

The photo has since been shared over 45,000 times in 14 hours, and despite plenty of criticism, she refuses to take the photo down, and in fact, defended her actions in the thread.

Katie Brown, of South Daytona, Florida, is being looked for by police who want to question her treatment of her dog
Katie Brown posted a photo of her dog on Facebook with his mouth taped shut

Defiant: Brown does not seem to think duct-taping her dog's mouth was wrong, and wrote 'I did
it for 60 seconds' on Facebook - calls have poured into the local police department and officers are looking for her

When one friend begged her to reassure people that she did not actually tape the pup's mouth, she wrote, 'I cant lie i did it for sixty seconds. It was time out and no more barking.'
Other Facebook users threatened to report her to the police.

Despite the criticism, Brown defiantly kept the photo up.

She then followed up with another post, saying, 'Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn't barked since... POINT MADE!!!'

South Daytona Police Department Telecommunications Supervisor Mimi Perez told the Daily Mail that it has received an onslaught of calls about Brown's dog 'from 44 states, three provinces, and as far away as Australia.'

Police are currently looking for Brown for questioning but have been unable to find her at the addresses they have listed for her.

In October, Kimberly Ann Howell of Salisbury, North Carolina, was charged with animal abuse after posting a photo of her duct-taped dog on Facebook and captioned it 'hah hah.'

Police allowed the dog to stay with Howell because there were no signs of injury, and she claimed she only kept the tape on long enough to take a photo, according to USA Today.

Caitlyn has since recovered and her owner was charged with animal cruelty

The world was sickened when Caitlyn (above) was found with her muzzle taped shut so tightly that she needed surgery to remove the tape - her owner, William Leonard Dodson, was arrested

Animal lovers were horrified in June when Chocolate Staffie Mix Caitlyn, who bears a striking resemblance to Brown's dog, was found in North Charleston, South Carolina with her mouth taped shut so tightly that she needed surgery to remove the tape.

William Leonard Dodson, 41, was charged with ill treatment of animals, he was forced to surrender a second dog he owned.

Caitlyn has since recovered from her ordeal.

Alsu Ivanchenko deserves to be 'famous'!

Woman Who Threw Puppy From Car Goes To Jail

By Hudson Hongo

A year after she flung a 3-month-old puppy from a car window, cracking the tiny dog's skull and damaging her brain, Alsu Ivanchenko made no attempt to say she was sorry.
In court this week, Ivanchenko simply shook her head when asked if she had anything to say before she was sentenced for leaving her injured, 1-pound Maltese/Shih Tzu puppy, Snowflake, for dead by the railroad tracks in a shopping bag, the Staten Island Advance reports.
Last September, the 35-year-old New York woman took Snowflake to an animal clinic where the puppy was diagnosed with a broken leg, but Ivanchenko declined to have the dog treated. Instead, prosecutors say, she stuffed Snowball in a black bag and threw her away like trash.

"It costs too much to get it treated," Ivanchenko told officers, according to police. "I couldn't afford it. So that's why I put it in the bag, and I put it on the side of the road."
Authorities, however, say Ivanchenko would later buy a new puppy to replace Snowflake.

When good Samaritans finally discovered Snowflake, she had bloodied, crusted eyes, two fractures in her skull and brain trauma — in addition to her broken leg.
The tiny pup's injuries were so severe, a neurological veterinarian initially recommended she be euthanized, but thanks to the efforts of caregivers atSouth Shore Animal Hospital, Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Northeast and the ASPCA, Snowflake managed to make a remarkable recovery.

Over the next seven months, Snowflake's health gradually improved and eventually she was adopted into a loving home where she's reportedly "doing great" and "quite happy."

For her crimes, Ivanchenko was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday and ordered to pay $21,795 in restitution to the ASPCA. Additionally, Ivanchenko is barred from owning a companion animal for 15 years and must register with New York City's new animal abuse registry for five years.

Today: Animal abuser registry? T fiscal board; Finneran on TV
A bill to create an animal abuser registry board, compelling those convicted of felony animal abuse to register with the state, is among 20 animal-related bills to be heard by the Committee on the Judiciary, Rooms A-1 and A-2, 1:00pm.

MBTA's Fiscal and Management Control Board will hold a meeting at MassDOT Board Room, 10 Park Plaza, Boston, 2:30pm. Agenda includes a Registry of Motor Vehicles presentation on "War on Wait Times," an update on the Green Line Extension, a report from the board, and "action" items pertaining to West Boylston - Worcester - I-190 and Parcel 13/Hynes Station.

Former House Speaker Thomas Finneran is a scheduled guest on Greater Boston with host Jim Braude. A judge recently ruled Finneran is entitled to his state pension, despite a federal conviction in 2007. Finneran resigned from the House in 2004. WGBH Channel 2, 7:00pm.

Meaningful fantasy sports regs may come from feds
Attorney General Maura Healey has again declared the fantasy sports operation DraftKings to be legal, saying there is nothing explicit in the law that prohibits fantasy sports activity. That, of course, is a matter of opinion. The law that ushered in casino gambling in Massachusetts defined gambling as: "dealing, operating, carrying on, conducting, maintaining or exposing any game for pay." A game for pay: Isn't that the fundamental model of fantasy sports?http://bit.ly/1hRI9YL

Healey is expected to release some consumer protection provisions, but the more pressing regulation is probably out of the hands of state regulators and lawmakers: They need to figure out a way to get a cut of the action. Massachusetts stands to collect 25 cents for every dollar bet in casinos; it is getting 49 percent of the slot machine revenue at Plainridge. It receives almost $1 billion in lottery profits. Because fantasy sports players come from near and far, it may not be feasible for the state to intercept its fair share with homegrown legislation.

Congress may be the answer, although few these days turn to Congress for answers. Perhaps a federal law can streamline a process to funnel back some of the fantasy fees to the states. Without a taxing mechanism on fantasy sports, states will continue to risk the impact of tax-free gambling on their bottom lines.

Meanwhile, she lives the fantasy: The Globe's Shirley Leung, never one to be left out of the action, decided to borrow a page from the late, great George Plimpton and check out fantasy sports for herself. She had a blast, and concludes with a few regulatory thoughts, including a very sensible one on fee limits. http://bit.ly/1Xjx6re

Galvin calls out Baker team on budget numbers
With political candor that few can match, Secretary if State Bill Galvin called out what he claims were inflated revenue expectations for his office, numbers he says never should have been used to build the budget in the first place. A recent Administration and Finance update said his office would come $35 million short of its target, a figure Galvin says was obviously unrealistic to meet."I don't know where this all came from because everyone now disowns it," Galvin told Matt Murphy of the State House News Service. "Why should we start with erroneous numbers?" Galvin goes on to suggestion the Baker administration is manufacturing a budget crisis.http://bit.ly/1GROmun

Globe review: Trump speaks at 4th grade level
The Boston Globe ran the campaign rhetoric of the presidential candidates through a program that analyzes their words and syntax for grade-level ranking, finding that Donald Trump's language is the simplest. He's speaking at a 4th grade level. "By every criteria in the algorithm, Trump is speaking at the lowest level. He used fewer characters per word in his announcement speech, fewer syllables per word, and his sentences were shorter than all other candidates."http://bit.ly/1MT8Kl3

Chester seeks middle road in test debate
o the ongoing test controversy -- MCAS or PARCC -- State Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester says there's a third option: an updated MCAS, using PARCC."It's got to be a next generation assessment for the Commonwealth, a next generation MCAS. The question in my mind is to what extent can we take advantage of the development that's been done with PARCC to take us down that road," Chester said yesterday. Michael Jonas of CommonWealth Magazine has more:

Alcohol ads banned on T, but not alcohol delivery ads
A Boston startup that makes alcohol deliveries has an ongoing ad campaign on the T, reports Boston.com's Adam Vaccaro. Drizly has an app that enables home delivery of alcohol, and its advertising falls with the T's no-alcohol guidelines. T officials were weighing eliminating the alcohol ban as a way to boost revenue, an idea that has some prominent opponents, including Mayor Marty Walsh. http://bit.ly/1W3Pxh6
MGM seeks to shrink Springfield casino
MGM wants to trim the size of the resort casino it is building in downtown Springfield by 14 percent, reducing retail space by 38 percent and cutting down the size of an on-site movie theater and bowling alley, MassLive reports. MGM says the changes are part of the design process, but the casino now faces the prospect of a competitor just over the Connecticut border, something that wasn't in place when the proposal was first made. The city's mayor said he will work to stop any further reductions in the project after MGM already removed a high-rise hotel tower from the original, approved plans. http://bit.ly/1hSJpej

Bill would shield internal police inquiries from public
Amid a movement to make Massachusetts government more open and transparent, one lawmaker's bill seems to be heading in the other direction, Boston Magazine reports. Rep. Nick Collins -- who the magazine says has taken several thousand dollars in donations from police officers and public safety unions -- wants to exempt the materials that are the subject of internal police probes from the public records law while the probes are ongoing. http://bit.ly/1NTGVdS

Quincy mayor's race carries hefty price tag
Mayor Thomas Koch has spent more than a half-million dollars this year on his bid for re-election, the Patriot Ledger reports, setting a new spending record in the process. His challenger, former mayor Bill Phelan, has spent more than $114,000 and the total spent on the race could challenge the city's record of more than $700,000, set in 2007. http://bit.ly/1GSxRhz

Lowell council: teach kids about opioids
The Lowell City Council wants the city's public schools to introduce opioid education as part of a larger effort to address the ravages of the drug epidemic on the city, the Sun reports. Lowell has seen 42 overdose deaths already this year. http://bit.ly/1GSyho4

Roadrunner (more than) once
A bill to make "Roadrunner" by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers the official state rock song is back on Beacon Hill, but WGBH's Mike Deehan points out that lawmakers seem more enamored with filing such legislation than actually passing them into law. The bill died in committee last year and will likely face the same fate again. http://bit.ly/1NTDJ25
