Every time it rains, the water hitting hard
surfaces like roads and rooftops washes chemicals, harmful bacteria, and other
pollutants into your local rivers, lakes, and streams. The result? Millions of
gallons of polluted water ends up in our local streams and rivers. This
is one of the major sources of pollution in our rivers in streams.
But
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the opportunity to fix this. They
could take a big step forward reducing pollution and flooding by updating the
way polluted runoff is managed across the country. However, they continue to
delay these critical updates.
It's time for the EPA to stop dragging their feet.
Tell them to act now to help prevent more polluted runoff.
A
recent report released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows
that around 55% of our rivers and streams are in poor
biological condition. This costs our communities and threatens public
health. Updating federal standards to capture and treat rainwater where it falls
will keep polluted runoff out of lakes, rivers, and streams in a proven,
cost-effective way.
Take action today. Tell the EPA to move forward on
these critical updates to protect clean water.
