Middleboro Health Care Costs #2: Nothing to sneeze at!

Were Middleboro to adopt Chapter 32, Section 19, town retirees would be compelled to participate in Medicare for which they are eligible.
.
Middleboro has ~ 300 retirees.
.
Simple math:
.
PPO cost, Ind. ....................$696.29 per month
Medex cost, Ind................. $424.57 per month
.
SAVINGS TO THE TOWN $271.72 monthly per town retiree
.
300 Retirees = $81,516 PER MONTH
.
ANNUAL SAVINGS TO THE TOWN: $978,192
.
My understanding from the Town Treasurer is that Medicare and Medex 3 would provide the same coverage, including prescription drug coverage, to retirees with the above cost savings.

The healthcare benefits town employees recieve are way out of line with the private sector. My husband works in a highly responsible position for the largest corporate employer in Massachusetts, and we have the
same BC/BS HMO plan that the town offers. Guess what? We pay 25% of the cost for our plan, and this is the standard offering of most corporations.

I don't begrudge town employees a good healthcare plan. But c'mon! They need to pay their fair share just like the rest of us. I resent paying taxes to advantage town employees over the rest of us. This inequity needs to be addressed.

Town Employees and Town Residents have ALL of the solutions. We just need to listen.
This should be on the ATM Warrant, sponsored by the Selectmen.
It provides the same benefits, but saves the Town almost $1 MILLION.
WIN-WIN from what I see.
