There’s exactly one week left for the state Legislature to pass the Updated Bottle Bill, to dramatically increase recycling and decrease waste and litter in Massachusetts. Would you guess who’s hard at work to defeat it?

Coca-Cola Co., one of the biggest companies on earth.

Coca-Cola is constantly publicizing their support of recycling -- it’s a big part of their image and their brand. That’s why I know that if we can shine a bright enough spotlight on their anti-recycling moves on Beacon Hill, they’ll consider backing off.

Just go to Coca-Cola's Facebook page and leave a message like this:

Your opposition to the Updated Bottle Bill in Massachusetts could mean that 1 billion bottles a year end up as litter or in landfills and incinerators -- instead of being recycled. Please support recycling, and end your opposition to the Updated Bottle Bill.

Why Facebook? It's a public forum, and it’s the best way to make them feel pressure, and fast. And if you don’t have Facebook, please forward this email to someone who does.

Now, you may know we collected 160,000 signatures to put the Updated Bottle Bill on the ballot in November 2014 -- that means that even if the Legislature fails to pass it, we still have a great chance to win this campaign. But winning now, in the Legislature, would mean winning sooner. Coca-Cola removing their opposition would smooth the path to victory.

Help me get Coca-Cola to stop fighting recycling in Massachusetts, and post a message on their Facebook page.

We can’t let the powerful special interests block this common sense recycling law. Let’s pass the Updated Bottle Bill.

Thanks for your support,
