Daily Kos: largest progressive political publication

Daily Kos had 7.35 million unique visitors in September—our second-best month ever.

And those visitors generated 37 million pageviews. All of this as we enter the heaviest traffic month of almost every year—pre-election October. (Octobers represent a disproportionately large number of the spikes in the chart above.)

But site traffic isn’t the only place where we’re kicking ass:

  • Our email action list at the end of August was at 1.6 million, which was literally double from the previous 12 months. One month later, it ended at exactly 1.776 million, because it loves America. This is just amazing growth.
  • Our Facebook likes are at 619,000, up from just under 600,000 last month. If we want to change our country, we need to get our message out to a broader non-activist audience.
  • Neeta Lind, our Director of Community Building, is establishing on-the-ground groups of Daily Kos readers, and they’re busy engaging in offline activism. They’ve lobbied senators and government commissions, they’ve participated in the NYC global climate change march, and they’re registering voters and working to get our voters to the polls.
  • As of today, we’ve raised $1.5 million for Democratic candidates, funneling critical small-dollar donations to good candidates, the ones from the Elizabeth Warren-Sherrod Brown-Jeff Merkley wing of the Democratic Party.

Simply put, Daily Kos has grown into the largest progressive political publication in the country, with the ability to mobilize huge numbers of activists to help elect Democrats and impact public policy.

Can you chip in $5 right now to keep Daily Kos running smoothly through the election?

This is the home stretch to the election, so your help is needed now more than ever. A Republican takeover of the Senate would be devastating. Not only would it empower Boehner and his Tea Party majority to act even crazier, but it would grind President Obama’s executive and judicial nominations to a halt.

We need to keep Daily Kos strong. Please, if you’re able, chip in $5 right now to make that happen.

Thank you and keep fighting,
Markos Moulitsas
Founder and Publisher, Daily Kos

P.S. Check out my September write-up for more about Daily Kos’s growth trends—site traffic (including mobile traffic), email, Facebook, and more.

P.P.S. We can’t keep Daily Kos up and running without you, and that’s a good thing. Being dependent on our readers makes us more responsive to you, and focuses us on delivering the news you think is important. So, if you haven’t yet, please chip in now.
