Bernie Sanders nails what we need to do for Social Security

Social Security Works

You have to check out Senator Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) recent speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate. In a very succinct way, Bernie lays out the argument for expanding, not cutting Social Security benefits.

When the new Congress convenes in 2015, Bernie will be the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. He will be in a strong position to move many of our priorities including expanding Social Security. He understands that two-thirds of retirees depend on Social Security for the majority of their income and that the average Social Security benefit for current recipients is just $14,000 a year.

At a time when the rich are getting richer and the middle class continues to disappear, we must demand that the very wealthy start paying their fair share into Social Security. When we do that we can extend the life of Social Security and expand benefits for the majority of eligible Americans.
Please donate to Social Security Works today as we stand side by side with our Social Security champions.

With Republicans set to take control of both bodies of Congress, we know that 2015 is going to be a fight. But with champions on our side like Senators Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown and Elizabeth Warren, we know this is a fight we can win.

Thank you and happy holidays.
